Kendrick is getting the start today in place of Blanton. He was competing against Jamie Moyer for the fifth spot in the rotation this spring and ultimately Moyer "won" the job. This was expected as Moyer was the good soldier coming out of the pen last year and the Phillies believe that he will not hold up on back to back games if needed. Kendrick was nasty all spring, having pitched 19 2/3 innings, allowing only 12 hits while posting an ERA of 1.37. He showed many more pitches last year, including a sick change up. While the Phils have certainly gotten off to a great start (19 runs on 24 hits in two games!!) they have always proven inconsistent Too often they follow up an offensive outburst with a stinker.
