The next six games will also give Bowa a reprieve from the lineup dilemma he has encountered since the Phillies obtained Jeremy Giambi from Oakland last month. Giambi will likely spend the next six days as the designated hitter while Travis Lee plays first base and Doug Glanville patrols center field.

One of the Phillies' weaknesses last year during interleague play was at DH. They recalled Eric Valent to plug in that hole, but he went just 3 for 13 as a DH and batted .098 overall during his first trip to the big leagues.

Giambi has plenty of experience in that role. He has a .269 career batting average with 10 home runs and 63 RBIs as a DH. He only had nine at-bats as a DH with Oakland this season.
