Got one for tonight that might be interesting...

Pittsburgh -107 over Arizona. Maholm v Vazquez. Javier Vazquez has an ERA of 7.90 for his last 5 away starts. He hasn't pitched in Pittsburgh in 3 years, but in his four previous starts there, his ERA was over 8!! If you look at the Pittsburgh lineup vs. Vazquez and you will see that many of them have had good success against him.

In addition, the Pirates fired their manager today, with the bench coach taking over for the remainder of the season. That generally tends to startle a team into playing better. Remember KC's nice stretch immediately after Buddy Bell was hired this year...

Also, in Maholm's only previous major league start, he pitched eight innings of shutout ball against the Brewers a few days ago, giving up only 4 hits!

Everything looks like a Pittsburgh victory for tonight...

Good luck to all...

Mike

"Sep. 5
News: Vazquez is fighting off nagging knee pain, and it's not certain he'll get two starts for the Diamondbacks this week, the team web site reports.

Vazquez is scheduled to start on Tuesday at Pittsburgh, but the D-Backs will give starts to Dustin Nippert (up from Double-A) and Shawn Estes (coming off the DL, foot) this week, and have not yet named a starter for Sunday's game at Colorado. That start could go to Vazquez, or it could go to either Russ Ortiz or Brad Halsey, neither of whom is currently scheduled to start at all this week."
