The Pitt men's basketball team lost out on one of its most coveted potential recruits for the Class of 2008 when Eloy Vargas, a five-star center from American (Fla.) Heritage, committed to the University of Florida on Wednesday night. The 6-foot-10 Vargas, ranked No. 10 nationally in the senior class by Rivals.com, also turned down Louisville, Miami and Florida State.

Pitt had been considered the front-runner since it began recruiting Vargas, but his stock soared with a strong summer, attracting two-time defending champion Florida.

"I think it was a tough choice for him," American Heritage coach Danny Herz said. "Unfortunately, he can only go one place. It became a very difficult thing, but Florida was for him. It's hard for anyone to beat out Florida right now, and especially when you're a Florida kid."

Doesn't surprise me. Florida Pittsburgh Florida Pittsburgh. Let's see, 2 time NC when you are from Florida, warm weather, and skirt everywhere. Enough said for me.
