Daniel Briere, Buffalo Sabres - As stated yesterday, Briere suffered a groin/hamstring injury during an off-ice workout Wednesday. It is not known exactly how serious his injury is but he will accompany the Sabres on their upcoming multi-game roadtrip while being listed as day-to-day. We'd guess that he will miss at least a couple of games but since the team did not put him on injured reserve, there's a chance he could be ready for next week.
Igor Larionov, New Jersey Devils - Larionov is questionable for Thursday's game against the Maple Leafs after a collision in practice appeared to injure his knee or ankle. He was helped off the ice and didn't speak to reporters but the Devils don't believe the injury is serious. If Larionov can't play, it is expected that Michael Rupp will make his season debut in his place.
Turner Stevenson, New Jersey Devils -Stevenson (groin surgery) said he plans to skate lightly today and might be ready to play in about ten days. Stevenson added that he is certain the testicular procedure he underwent has eliminated the groin problems he suffered last season.
Tommy Albelin, New Jersey Devils - The Devils re-signed unrestricted free agent Albelin to a one-year contract yesterday. He will join the team immediately and could play as early as tonight against the Maple Leafs. On a team that already has Scott Niedermayer, Brian Rafalski and Scott Stevens, Albelin has virtually no fantasy value.
Brian Leetch, New York Rangers - Leetch still has not practiced after bruising his ankle almost a month and a half ago. He's been on the ice skating on his own now and again but isn't especially close to returning. Don't expect anything from him until November at the earliest.
John LeClair, Philadelphia Flyers - The Flyers hope that LeClair will be able to begin skating this weekend in Phoenix. The winger, who is recovering from a fractured foot, would then hope to be back in the lineup Tuesday against the Kings. We'll keep you posted on his status.
Ramzi Abid, Pittsburgh Penguins - Abid will make his season debut Thursday against the Canadiens, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He will play on the team's second line.
Bryan McCabe, Toronto Maple Leafs - McCabe skated for the second consecutive day yesterday afternoon and reported no problems. The defenseman, who is making a speedy recovery from knee surgery, hopes to be cleared for full-contact practice by Saturday and then would try to be back in the lineup a week after that.
Alexander Mogilny, Toronto Maple Leafs - Mogilny had hoped to get on the ice today to test out his strained groin but after a consultation with the team's medical staff, he has been told to stop skating for at least two days. Groin injuries are tricky for hockey players, especially players like Mogilny who rely so much on their speed. As a result, don't expect him to rush back quickly with a reasonable return being sometime next week at the very earliest.
Jason Allison, Los Angeles Kings - Allison missed yesterday's morning skate (non-contact) after reportedly not feeling well, reports the LA Times. This is bad news for a player recovering from whiplash/concussion. He remains sidelined indefinitely and will only begin contact practice once his concussion-related symptoms subside. When that will be no one knows but this season is already turning very ugly for the talented center.
Adam Deadmarsh, Los Angeles Kings - Deadmarsh also missed yesterday's morning skate after re-aggravating a groin injury that he suffered during the first week of training camp. This is on top of the concussion he still has not recovered which all but means that he won't be back anytime soon. If you have the bench spot available on your fantasy team, you might as well keep him around, however, it's getting awfully close to the point where you'd be better off having someone who can actually play.
Mike Cammalleri, Los Angeles Kings - Cammalleri skated hard for the first time since suffering a sprained left knee ligament in preseason play, reports the LA Times. He is only working on non-contact drills at the moment and is about a month away from returning.
Eric Daze, Chicago Blackhawks - Daze missed Wednesday's practice after he woke up with a "stiff back", reports the Chicago Sun-Times. This is troubling news for the big right winger as he has an extensive history of back related problems and in fact, missed 15 games last year due to back surgery. His status won't be determined until later today but this is awful news for a Hawks team that has already lost Alexei Zhamnov to back surgery for at least six weeks.
Martin Skoula, Colorado Avalanche - Skoula skated Wednesday but did not take part in contact drills. He is not expected to play against the Wild while still recuperating from a bruised foot.
Jere Lehtinen, Dallas Stars - Lehtinen had a MRI on Tuesday, and coach Dave Tippett said the test didn't show anything out of the ordinary. Lehtinen obviously wasn't ready to play Wednesday and is still listed as day-to-day but could return Friday.
Brett Hull, Detroit Red Wings - Hull missed Wednesday's practice due to a sore lower back, reports the Detroit News. He is questionable for tonight's game against the Canucks but will probably end up playing. If he can't go, rookie Jiri Hudler will make his NHL debut instead.
Dallas Drake, St. Louis Blues - Drake will return to the Blues lineup for tonight's game against the Predators. The winger, who still has not completely recovered from a facial injury after being struck with a puck, will play the game with a partial face shield while on a line with Petr Cajanek and Jeff Heerema.
