Playoff ticket pricing question??

It's interesting to watch a "new" team grow in fan base. I grew up a NYR fan and came down to school in NC and have been lucky to have been able to get great playoff seats because of the area the Canes are in. I've never been able to get a hold of playoff tix for the Rangers, so I have a question for anyone who has gotten playoff tickets in other arenas.

Now that the Hurricanes have won the first series, the ticket prices for the next round have all increased. Is this customary?? I'm just curious, I wasn't sure if it was the norm at other arena's or if it wasn't. They are catching on like crazy down here and I wasn't sure if they were trying to cash in on that. I mean, if they pulled a minor miracle and made it to the finals, and if they increased by the same amount the price would be ridiculous. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

It's normal unfortunately

I think in Toronto if the Leafs make it to the final a $140-$160 ticket will be something over $400.

Normal fans can't afford to go to those games, just the guy's with alot of bucks and you can see that by just watching the Leaf game, in the third period of the NYI/Leaf playoff game the lower bowl must have been 3/4 empty, there all in the lounge watching it on TV.

It would be the same up here in Vancouver. Unfortunatley we haven't had a chance to gripe about progressive ticket pricing for some time.
Hey at least we went two more games this year!

I live in Hamilton, Ontario and figured I would try to buy tickets to the Leafs game. I got on the internet at 10 a.m. and 2 tickets came available (gold in the end zones). I usually would have jumped at it but when I saw the price I almost feinted - $296 per ticket and with taxes it came out to about $650 for the pair. Ouch. If the Leafs are playing game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals I would consider it but for a first round playoff series - NO WAY!

I remember hearing on the radio last year that people jumped at these types of tickets thinking they would be rich by scalping them but when it came time to sell them they weren't even being offered face value. The only ones who could afford those types of prices are big business who already have seasons tickets. The small guy just wants in the door and won't pay more than $300 for a pair. The 2nd cheapest is $115 per ticket. That's about as much as I would pay.:nono:

Ridiculous is right. Qualifying for a later round should be a reward to the faithful fans, not a chance to make more revenue. Unfortunatly, it's always about the almighty dollar.

In any case, just to let you guys know how "cheap" the Hurricanes tix are relative to other stadiums...I went to games 1,2 and 5 of the Devils series and sat 5th row, on the blueline...each ticket was only 65.00!! Chew on that for a while! Next round those seats are around 90, which is still quite a deal. The sad thing is that most folks down here don't understand how cheap those prices are for playoff hockey.

I have a friend who is part of a group that has 4 season tickets. First Row, Balcony (Upper Bowl). Reg season, his tickets are $55

First Round - $65 (Montreal)
Second Round - $77
Conf Finals - $90
Cup Finals - $130

This is the time of year that the players play for free and the owners are playing for the teams future. Every game here is on TV so I'm letting the fair weather fan pay those dollars and next year - short of the home opener - tickets will be available again.
