St Johns is coming off of their best game of the season as they dismantled Seton Hall in NJ. The Cats recently crushed DePaul who was without their star player. No doubt the Red Storm are seeking to build their tournament resume with a win vs.the 14th ranked Cats.
As Champagnie and Alexander go so go the Red Storm. Champagnie averages 19 ppg while Alexander is their energizer bunny averaging 15ppg but creating steals, turnovers and assists. The game is a classic ?tortoise vs. hare? matchup. St Johns averages 80 ppg; Nova gives up 60. St Johns is 4th in tempo; Nova is 356th. St Johns is 15th in generating steals and 16th in creating turnovers; Nova is 5th in preventing steals and 11th In turnovers.
So, how will it play out?
No doubt each team will attempt to dictate pace. Expect St Johns to press from the opening tip. Nova remembers well losing to these guys last year and will be prepared. St Johns is poor at defending the 3. Nova will exploit that. Champagnie has been in a slump the last 3 games; he?s due to wake up. If not, Nova rolls. For sure, the Cats will try to get the Red Storm in foul trouble as the Cats are the best foul shooting team in the country. The line seems way high so Vegas must think St Johns is due for a clunker.
