Nova Report
The Villanova Wildcats start the year ranked #10 or better in most polls. While in March, that sounds about right, I?m afraid they are rated a bit higher than they should be. They have no Seniors on the squad but DO have a top 5 Freshman class. Unfortunately, the best of the bunch, Bryan Antoine had shoulder surgery over the summer and is not projected to go until Jan. 1. On top of that, they really don?t have a true point guard.
Clearly, they have talent. Freshman Justin Moore dropped in 39 in a scrimmage vs. North Carolina. Jeremiah Earl-Robinson tossed in 23 in an exhibition loss vs. USC. Expect Bey, Gillespie and Samuels, returning players, to make huge strides this year.
First up is Army. Early line is -24. The Black Knights Go 12 deep but really only have two decent players who can do damage (Funk and Wilson). My guess is Coach Wright will do a bunch of lineup experimenting tonight (8:30 eastern on FS1). After this is Ohio State. Army is terrible at defending the 3?s and despite Nova being short on guards, everyone (except Cosby-Roundtree) can go deep. My guess is Nova will go up tempo for 40 minutes and Wright will play 12 guys. Army will take the air out of the ball. If Cosby-Roundtree can neutralize Wilson, the Cats will cover....easily.
Expect Nova turnovers, not sure how long Gillespie will play with his broken nose but also expect the Cat?s Freshman class to shine tonight. Too much raw talent on Nova?s side. Cats by 28 is my call.
Go CATS!
