The Cats are on campus to take on the Red Storm of St.John?s at 6:30 pm eastern. Nova is -12.5/146.5. It?s Senior Night at Villanova. Of course, the Cats have no scholarship Seniors but they do have a Senior walk on, Tim Saunders, plus 6 student managers to honor. Additionally, they will retire Kyle Lowery?s number.
The 14-13 Red Storm Lost to Nova by 20 about 3 weeks ago. St.John?s is known for aggressive defense that produces the most steals in the Big East. They are led by Guards Figueroa (15 ppg), Dunn (13 ppg) and Freshman Champagnie (6.5 ppg). Just like Nova, they are a young team with potential. The knock on them is consistent scoring and their 3 point defense. They like to force the pace but are not a really deep club so sometimes they pull back a bit. They have a pretty good coach in Mike Anderson. But he is really playing for next year.
For the Wildcats, Gillespie was just about shut out by Xavier last game so expect a good game from him. Nova has 5 starters who can score so St. John?s really can?t double Bey a lot without getting burned. The Cat defense has been improving steadily and should be ready to continue in that vein tonight.
I?m not sure if Nova will run with these guys in an effort to wear them out as the Cats have a hot Providence Team next on Saturday followed by what should be a game for the Conference title at Seton Hall. I am also concerned that if Nova gets way up that Coach Wright will play his second team a lot thus being susceptible to a back door cover. Nonetheless, I expect a double digit win this evening with Saddiq Bey leading the way as I suspect he knows he?s off to the NBA next year (he?s a Sophomore) thus this would be his last game on campus.
