Three taxpayer advocacy groups plan to protest outside Congressman John Murtha's annual fundraising event tonight for defense industry lobbyists who have benefited ? or hope to benefit ? from millions of dollars worth of earmarks. Robert Novak calls the event Murtha's "annual payback dinner by defense contractors." Tickets for the Pennsylvania Democrat's dinner go for $1,500 for individuals and 5,000 for political action committees.

Murtha has $115 million worth of earmarks in the 2008 Defense Appropriations bill. He was recently voted the 2007 "Porker of the Year" by Citizens Against Government Waste ? for his total of $150 million in earmarks in the 2008 budget.

Cold Reception

Tuesday we told you about several areas around the planet experiencing record cold and snowpack ? in the face of all the predictions of global warming.

Now there is word that all four major global temperature tracking outlets have released data showing that temperatures have dropped significantly over the last year. California meteorologist Anthony Watts says the amount of cooling ranges from 65-hundredths of a degree Centigrade to 75-hundreds of a degree.

He says that is a value large enough to erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. Watts says it is the single fastest temperature change ever recorded ? up or down.

Some scientists contend the cooling is the result of reduced solar activity ? which they say is a larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases.

Men Not Allowed

Harvard University has instituted women-only access times to its school gymnasium in order to accommodate female Muslim students. A Boston University student newspaper reports six hours per week have been set aside in which men are prohibited from working out ? after requests from the Harvard Islamic Society and its women's center.

One male student says the women-only hours are inconvenient ? discriminate against men ? and are impractical and purely symbolic measures to further a useless policy.

But an officer with the Islamic Society says the new policy does not discriminate against men ? and is not a case of minority rights trumping majority preference.

Porker......but, I just met her!!!

Hey Dog, get back to us on this when you list all the Republican Porkers from 1994 to 2006......or why dont you compare the pork from those years to the last fiscal year....or compare pre 1994 pork to post 2006 post....that might make some interesting comparisions to see if the newly elected Dems are indeed following through on the roll back of pork.

I do not think they are, but I do know at least the information is spelled out more clearly in spending bills, as opposed to the way they were buried and lumped together under republican rule. At least now we can follow the money better.

Did not our President and his latest appointed head of Nasa about a year ago slash funding and all but take out of commission the satelittles used to track global temps. It was one of the first moves his new NASA head did on the job. Wonder if that has anything to do with suddenly finding temps to counter climate change.

Sorry, I know you're a fan of our President, but I would not put that kind of subterfuge past him and his powerful cronies.

Otherwise, keep up the good fight......are you golfing yet down there? Since we just got a foot of snow up here two days ago, golf season in Toledo has been indefinetly delayed.

Whats funny is that both sides use an increase or decrease in annual temperatures to justify their claims. CLIMATE takes centuries to change, not a fvcking year.
Talk to a CLIMATologist not a meteorologist.
But the part about solar activity at least is good-that is the real culprit responsible for the fluctuations.

Odd thing is -doubt anyone would argue keeping planet clean is priority-warming or not

--its the Gore crew and their, could-might be-probably, analogies of sky is falling to profit from--especially when they say fine you can do it--just pay the fine.

The ethanol is out right fiasco--to pay more for processing and take out food supply--is insane.

It's a chain reaction--Crops-livestock ect have all went up in price--same people for it are same sceaming inflation now---

good read on ethanol debacle
