lol. I've already seen clips of it I think. That's called "noodling", and it's something I've never tried.

Girls Go a Grabblin'

DVD producer takes outdoor entertainment in bold new direction

Sometimes a new product comes along that meets such an obivious need you can't believe you didn't think of it. In this case, Marty and Fostana Jenkins got the jump on the rest of us by recognizing that the world needed a DVD that combined the water-thrashing thrill of catfish noodling with scenes of coeds and Southern moms splashing around in a river.

The result of their epiphany is Girls Gone Grabblin', which features more than 30 scenes of women battling monster catfish with nothing but their gloved hands.

"After we made our first catfish grabblin' video, several people suggested we do one featuring all women," says Marty Jenkins, who sells the DVDs on his website (catfishgrabblers.com). "We asked a bunch of women if they'd be interested in trying it and letting us film them. To our surprise, there were more women who wanted to try it than we imagined."

Priscilla Simms, a 23-year old graduate nursing student at the University of Tennessee, was one of those women. She learned about the project from her dad, and outdoor writer, who knew the Jenkinses. Simms grew up fishing and hunting but had never tried noodling.

"It was really scary at first," says Simms. "I wondered what could be in this hole I was putting my hands in.:scared The first time you reach in a hole your're a little bit nervous." It wasn't long before she was giving her all to pull the big cats-some topping 40 pounds-to the surface.:com: In one scene, she is timed holding her breath underwater for more thatn 40 seconds as she struggles to bring one to the surface.

So what did she think of the experience?

"Everyone should try it at least once," Simms says from Memphis apartment. "It was a blast. I'm trying to get my boyfriend to go, but he's not so sure."

Those are flathead catfish. I've done it. It really is a lot of fun. Usually catch them in the 25 to 60 pound range. Unlike a channel catfish(what you get when u get catfish at a restraunt) the belly meat on the flatheads is very similar to lobster. Crappie fillets and flathead belly meat are my two favorite fish to eat.

Thought I would add, the last photo looks like about a 65 to 70 pound fish. We catch most of ours on trout lines. We use 5 to 8 inch goldfish if we are rich, perch if we aren't. They will only bite on live bait. Not like the normally bottom dwelling scavenger catfish that will eat anything. ie blood bait or liver. It also illegal here in Missouri.

Those things look terrifying. Do you have to club them or are they docile like some type of big oversized fish? They just let you yank them out of their nice little cave were they have been for decades? Thought catfish had spines somewhere?

They are pretty much docile. The easiest way when you are hand fishing is to run a stringer thru their gills and just lead them to the bank. They will flop and twist when you try and take them out of the water, but as long as you have them with the stringer it is no problem. The blue and white catfish will try and spin on your hand as you try and pull them from their hole. None of the catfish have teeth so they can't hurt you too bad. They do have very nubby bristle on the top and bottom of their mouths. When you stick your hand in their mouths they will chomp down pretty hard sometimes, and this will irritate the skin. When pulling one out by hand the first thing you must do is block the hole. This could take 3 or 4 people. At this point in time you own the fish, it is just a matter of how you want to get it out, either by hand or with the stringer. When you first block the hole they will try and come up and either ram you or escape from the hole, that is why you must have the blockers. I've actually sat next to a hole and petted them on the top of their heads before pulling them out. It can be pretty much of a rush when you find a big one. I will add more latter, have to go for now.
