Pim: Preakness Day scratches; Leparoux OK

J.Leparoux is a little beat up but otherwise OK and will be able to fulfill his engagements today, his agent, Steve Bass, said this a.m. at 9:20 ET. Leparoux and K.Desormeaux both went down on the backstretch during the B.E. Susan yesterday, with Desormeaux OK while Leparoux was taken to a nearby hospital for observation.

"He chipped a tooth and he's pretty sore, but he feels a lot better this morning than he did last night," said Bass. Among other mounts, Leparoux rides longshot Pleasant Prince in the 135th Preakness today.

There are quite a few scratches on the 13-race marathon card today, although no changes in the big one (race 12). Fast track, firm turf, an ideal day on tap, with sunshine and highs forecasted to reach the mid-70s.

Good luck and enjoy the second jewel of the Triple Crown, which is scheduled for 6:15 ET.
First post is 10:45 a.m. ET.
