A quick overview of the full Preakness draw:
Best break
Lookin At Lucky, PP 7
There?s not much speed on his inside (Schoolyard Dreams in post 2 is really it), and he has Super Saver in the gate to his immediate right. That means new jockey Martin Garcia should be able to work out a good trip while also keeping close tabs on the Kentucky Derby winner.
Toughest Road
Caracortado, PP 9
Jockey Paul Atkinson, riding in his first Preakness, is left with little choice except to use his horse early to avoid getting shuffled too far back with most of the speed on the inside of him. This horse needs to be involved early to be effective.
Watch out for ...?
Pleasant Prince, PP 3
The Florida Derby runner-up, a dead closer, can make a quick left to the rail and save ground throughout ? Calvin Borel-like ? until he is ready to fire. A ground-saving trip and fast early fractions are his only chances for an upset.
Don?t even bother
Northern Giant, PP 4
The post wouldn?t have mattered. Once the forecast for Saturday came up sunny and a fast track was predicted, he was finished. There?s a reason trainer D. Wayne Lukas pulled jockey Terry Thompson off Dublin and put him on this one.
The live long shot
Dublin, PP 12
Outside posts ? eight and beyond ? have won six of the past nine editions of the Preakness. Lukas helped this colt?s chances by grabbing top jock Garrett Gomez after Gomez was taken off Lookin At Lucky.
