Watching some talking heads on the idiot box (TV) yesterday,
really made me wonder about the priorities of this country..don't get me wrong, I am all for getting Ben Laden and the bunch and
having a rotisserie at superbowl halftime extravaganza, with
their body parts being the fare for the starving pack of lions..
BUT...it seems strange to me we can easily come up with 90 billion, which will be on the low side;yet we can not help the education system, which is our future;or address countless other problems in this country that are far more important than going to Iraq and kicking the crap out of a third world army...so we are going to occupy Iraq? That will go over swell with the Islamic
world.

Sorry for rant, it just pisses me off to see the BS being force fed
down our throats....

While you are spending money on everything besides war, could you do something about the price of gasoline as well, because DAMN. Filled the wifes van and my car the other day $62.00. :( :(

spending $$ on education sure isn't the answer....everytime we have spent more $$ on education we just get further dumbed down....best education we ever go was when we were taught in one room schoolhouses by everyday people out on the prairie and kids learned to read and write and think for themselves....

defense spending is at its lowest in a long long time as a % of GDP......even with that number....

spending $$ on defense at least gives us something in terms of jobs and doing something productive....if we spend that $$ on social programs all we do is pay for people to not be productive and further promote this attitude of entitlement that the liberals have developed so nicely in this country...used to have to work for everything you got.....now everything is given to you....

would rather see people work for their $$ and by taking care of things over there and getting some stability in the region that 90 billion or so will more than pay for itself for gas prices or to prevent another Sept. 11th which has cost this country TRILLIONS of dollars in things such as additional security at airports, etc.....

For the record Dr. Freeze, I agree with you, it is time to take care of the issue. I just didn't want to turn this into another thread on the moral rights and wrongs of war with Iraq.

Stability?

Stability?

You may get stability, but at what cost? a holy war? Backpack
nukes? All for gas at .99 to keep those SUV behemoths with
their 10mpg spewing into the atmosphere?

This could make Vietnam look like a family re-union gone sour...

How soon we forget...but what the hay...there is a beautiful
sunrise here in Tulsa...going to enjoy it...

yeah right a holy war....the arabs want to get rid of Saddam more than we do....they like their genitals not to be chopped off, families not to be gassed, etc. etc......

all these talking points...."holy war" SUV's, etc....good grief....

yeah we want cheaper gas.....if you liberals/environmentalist wackos don't like it, then go get a horse and ride it to work....meanwhile i will enjoy riding in my car or my girls SUV getting 1.19 at the pump after we take care of Saddam and the Iraqi people can come out of the mountains and enjoy a little bit of the freedom that you and i enjoy every day....

and getting tough is what wins wars and brings peace....giving in has never ever ever brought peace....think you peace lovers would realize that by now but i guess not....i am a peace lover and realize that the only way to enjoy peace is to win it...

so peace to you

most on this board are too young to remember Viet Nam and the lessons, apparently, not learned. this Iraqi "conflict" is setting up the same way.

after awile some of us hippies in the 60's (aka cowards for peace) started questioning why we were in southeast asia. answers started coming back that it was oil despite the government word that we were doing the morally right thing in stopping communism.

same thing today. oil is why we are there althought the official government line is were doing the morally right thing in stopping terrorism. yet, somehow old Bushie is having a hard time making that link.

Its ashame that body bags are gonna have to start commin off of military transports at Dover before the idiots who make up the majority in this country are gonna start asking the same questions we did 40 years ago.

Real reason.......... boys and girls.......... oil, money and future marketing for american international industry expansion......... This is just like the first starbucks (or in my case, McDonalds) going up in the neighborhood.

Iraq will make a nice base for establishing the American Way in the Persian Gulf. Buy those shares of Haliburton, your favorite defense stocks and later on starbucks and mcdonalds for that first store in Baghdad Heights.

Penguinfan and Freeze in agreement????? Wow thats a shocker!!!!

Thats cool, Freeze. Hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqi's so your girl can get $1.19 at the pump. And you wonder why they fly planes into american buildings.

If there is a god, hell will be frozen over.

Since the subject is back on the table Haskell, I am certainly interested in how you would handle the situation, or are you too busy making sure we do not violate the rights of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed? After all thats what is important here isn't it?

So many people just want to throw more money at education!
We already spend a ridiculous amount per child! Education starts at home! Get what you can out of your schools, but as a parent you MUST moniter what your child is learning and go further than the teachers go!

Everytime we go to see a new teacher with one of our kids, they all say the same thing, "I can always tell the kids who have parents who work with them at home"!

It just amazes me the number of parents, who at the very least, don't even care enough to check to see if their kids did their homework, let alone see if they did it right or need help!!

Justice and rights both, oh limited one. Less than unanimous world opinion on Mr. Bushs' shoot em up mentality. Get bin laden and put them on trial for the events of 9-11. ya know, old Bush aint gonna win alotta friends in the arab world when he launches an attack on a country that has at least partially disarmed due to his dictates.

Kinda like John Wayne yelling "draw" to a nasty old hombre whose Colt 45 he had just taken from him. Then he shoots him. Talk about a B movie plot. Continue with the disarmament and avoid killing a bunch of innocent people on both sides.

As you know my Pittsburg fellow web surfer, the real reason old Bush is launching this one sided war is he wants Sadaam out. So much for sovereignty.

Good posts..

Good posts..

Nice to see some thoughts tossed out...that"s what makes
America great...dissent does not mean unpatriotic....I was an average 19 year old in Vietnam.....lots of memories...good and bad...history has proved that experience to be a major f**K up..
I am not a screaming liberal or environmental whacko....just one
who has been there ,done that....tired of being world "SELECTIVE
CONSCIENCE"
Environmentally everyone would like to see cheaper cleaner energy...put that 90 billion into R&D...regrettably the oil interests
have too much to lose...

Since I have your attention my noblemen Haskell, I would also like your opinion of the situation in Florida with the Arab woman not wanting to remove her facial covering for a drivers liscense photo. If I heard correctly, her wish has been granted and her photo will have her facial covering as she wanted based on her religious convictions. Since you are big on both justice and rights I await your reply. You can probably guess what my reaction is so feel free to reply accordingly.

give the oil thing a rest...respectfully,you are showing how much you don`t know....the u.s. gets their oil from:

1)canada
2)venezuela
3)mexico
9)iraq

that`s right#9 iraq...you have every right to an honest debate on whether war is a good thing or the best option.....but,to think the u.s. takes over the iraqi oil fields is absurd...we would then have a WORLD WAR with china, russia, france and germany...then we really do look imperialist...that`s not happening.... .so,please, stop throwing the "oil" straw man out there...

and aladabra-you are so right about finding an alternative energy source...why doesn`t everyone see that .....that should be at the very top of the list....

So far this war to be has done little or nothing for uneployment. It's still at a 12 year high. 90 billion price tags is BS. Thats just to see the american people dont get to Pissed and not vote Bush in 20 months. And rememebr if we are really after all terror then Iran is next. Not sure about N Korea. Even Bush and his boys are concerned how to handle that one. There hoping China plays big part. So far China said you open your mouth Mr bush you handle it. Some times it's better if you don't talk so much. I believe Colin will help them learn that.

Great Thread

Great Thread

"Knock It Off, Eddie" Just thinking of what Wally would say.
Bush doing it for the oil reminds me of "I have to get back to the business of the country" or something similar . Also don't think Iraq is like Viet Nam anymore than WWII was like WWI. I too wish we would spend $ on alternatives and not necessarily camping on Iraq's doorstep. Good to read what others think.
An interesting analogy was made on the radio here a few days ago. Goes something like- 'Some men break into your house one night so you spend most of your $ looking for one person and continue to leave your doors unlocked, especially@ nite.'
No harm intended as I Like reading the different posts.

Anyone recall this statement?

The 1930's taught us a clear lesson: aggressive conduct, if allowed to go unchecked and unchallenged, ultimately leads to war. This nation is opposed to war. We are also true to our word. Our unswerving objective, therefore, must be to prevent the use of these missiles against this or any other country, and to secure their withdrawal or elimination from the Western Hemisphere.

Our policy has been one of patience and restraint, as befits a peaceful and powerful nation, which leads a worldwide alliance. We have been determined not to be diverted from our central concerns by mere irritants and fanatics. But now further action is required - and it is under way; and these actions may only be the beginning. We will not prematurely or unnecessarily risk the costs of worldwide nuclear war in which even the fruits of victory would be ashes in our mouth - but neither will we shrink from that risk at any time it must be faced.

Acting, therefore, in the defense of our own security and of the entire Western Hemisphere, and under the authority end trusted to me by the Constitution as endorsed by the resolution of the Congress, I have directed that the following initial steps be taken immediately
