Puck bettors happy as NHL season opens
The 2010-11 National Hockey League season is underway with a full slate of games this weekend for NHL Hockey bettors.
betED.com has NHL Odds for all the matchups, including a Friday night tilt between the Anaheim Ducks and the Detroit Red Wings in the season opener for both teams at Joe Louis Arena (7:30 pm ET, PRIME, FOX).
Detroit is a -200 moneyline favorite and the over/under total is 5.5 in NHL Lines at betED.com.
Anaheim fell back last season, finishing at 39-32-11 while the Red Wings also slipped a bit due to a rash of injuries but still finished a solid 44-24-14. Both teams have won five of the past 10 head-to-head.
Detroit is hoping that reuniting snipers Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg will spark what was up until last season one of the NHL?s most prolific offenses. The two could not be paired together much last season because of all the injuries.
Also Friday, Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals open their NHL season against the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena (7:30 pm ET, CSN).
The Capitals are a -160 favorite and the over/under is 6.5.
Washington had the best record in the NHL last season at 54-15-13 while Atlanta was 35-34-13.
The Capitals have dominated at 9-1 SU over the past 10 meetings. They last met April 9 last season, a 5-2 Capitals win as a -240 home moneyline favorite.
On Saturday, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins host the Montreal Canadiens (7 pm ET, FOX), and the Red Wings visit the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks in a clash of Central division rivals (8:30 pm ET, NHLN-US, FS-D, CSN-CH).
