I believe someone is playing with you. Pudge isn't going to the Brewers.

I heard it on talk radio here in Milw - they are pretty reliable - supposedly a Ranger team source has confirmed it... but a Milw. source has not...
CNNSI reported it, but I didn't find it on their website..
I apologize if I've been hoaxed...
A good start is to check the Rangers lineup in half an hour - if Pudge isn't there, it's probably true...

having Texas playing in Tampa right now probably helps make the trade happen?!?

I Just Browsed A Few Sites And I Haven't Seen Anything Either...Although I Did Hear The Rumor Earlier In The Day.

I Think The Brewers Would Have To Part With Burnitz or Jenkins To Make That Trade Happen.

The Brewers Aren't Happy With Blanco's Bat But Love His Arm And They Are Giving Casanova More Time Behind The Plate.

When Was The Last Time Milwaukee Pulled Off A Blockbuster Trade ?? I Think You Have To Go Back To The Vuckovich and Simmons Deal Way Back In The Early 80's !!

I Think The Brewers Are Happy With What They Got And They Are Winning.

I Don't See Rodriguez As A Brewer !!

Hoax, line, sinker

Fueled by erroneous radio reports, e-mail messages and word of mouth, rumors swirled around Milwaukee on Thursday that the Brewers were on the brink of completing a trade for Texas catcher Ivan Rodriguez.

"I think that was started by a bartender in New York," said an amused Brewer GM Dean Taylor, who denied the deal for Pudge and also downplayed a Chicago newspaper report that the Brewers were adark-horse contender to acquire White Sox left-hander David Wells.

Although he is constantly seeking to upgrade his team through the trade market, Taylor said the Brewers' financial constraints made it unlikely that the club would acquire either player. Wells is making $9.2 million this season, $1 million more than Rodriguez ($8.2 million).

"We have been given fairly strict payroll directives by ownership," he said. "We have very little leeway in what we have the ability to do. It's our goal to put as competitive a club as possible on the field for our fans within those guidelines."

On June 2, Pudge becomes a 10/5 guy, meaning he can reject a trade. It also probably means that a contract extention past 2002 would have to be worked out before he agreed to the trade. Up until 6/2, the Rangers have the upper hand, but I seriously doubt any team would trade for Pudge without a tentative contract agreement.

Personally, I still think Pudge is gone and wouldn't be surprised to see him wind up in LA. The Dodgers have the pitching the Rangers need and it would make up for the horrible snafu (and PR nightmare) they committed by trading Piazza. I mean, let's face it, Texas is finished this year. They are already 17 games out of first. Why not trade him now while he still has value? He's going to be 30 at season's end. How long can he continue to catch 150 games a season? Throught the length (probably 8 years) of his contract? I doubt it. Sure, you could move him to first base or DH, but then you're losing a huge part of his value. His value is not as a great hitter but as a great hitting CATCHER.

True, he is a great hitting catcher but is considered a poor catcher in regards to calling a game and helping the pitchers out. Plus his ego probably would not be open to a move to the outfield. Move Green to CF, put Pudge in right would work out best. Defense would suffer some in outfield but think Green could handle center. Wishful thinking there. Still, in the end I would like to have him as a Dodger fan.
