Anybody ever been there? I was talking to Nole about it, and it seems like a fun place. My wife just won a free all inclusive 7 day vacation there from the company she works for and I'm going too. Funny how things work out because I was thinking I would buy this sometime around March or April and we're departing on 3/22. Don't worry Nole, we'll go somewhere else. Is there a lot of good stuff to do in Punta Cana? Do they have a cool downtown area? I have seen a lot of my friends post pics on fb of them partying there and having a good time. Any must do things? Any tips would be appreciated.

We stayed at the Excellence 3 years ago and one of the nicest resorts we have been to. Beaches are really nice but other than that not really a lot to do there. You can hit the bars and do some shopping but be careful it is not the safest place in the world. Check at the hotel for excursions or ask a local cabbie for a tour they know the area and will steer you in the right direction. What resort are you staying?

I've been by there and it looked like a real nice place. Oh hell, they're all nice! All inclusive for 7 days you can't go wrong. Enjoy! I'm leaving for Playa del Carmen next week can't wait!

Kneifl, you didn't stay at the Royal in Playa did you? I know ours had a hot tub inside and out. Damn I love that place. Heading down to Mexico in April and can't wait. For those that have never been to a GOOD all inclusive, you have to check them out. Nothing better than ordering Grey Goose or whatever premium you want without worrying about the gigantic tab at the end of the day.

Did the Excellence a few years back and agree with this. We had a room on the first floor, back of the room opened up to a pool that had a swim up bar. Way too convenient. Liked that there was a variety in the restaurants at the resort as well. Plenty to do via the excursions that are allowed to be booked at the hotel.

We were over by the Italian rest in the quad. 2nd floor room that overlooked that pool. We camped out on the beach by the bar and lunch hut. Did you find the sports bar? Kind of hidden away but had the coldest beer! Definatly a resort we want to go back and do again. Who about K-Mart and Walmart at the end of the beach!

I can't really remember the name of it, I can find out tonight. I'm glad you had fun and are going in April. The pool was absolutely huge and had a swim up bar as well. They had four restaurants as I remember. I'll find out the name and circle back to this thread later tonight. Yep, looking forward to seeing some warmer weather after all this snow, sleet, and rain.

Yeah the NBA finals and NHL Stanley cup were going on so we would be at that sports bar every night, playing pool and watching the games.

Local TV guy did a half hour show from there not long ago. It looked pretty damn great to me and with the some of the crazy low deals out there it seems like a no brainer.

have a great time

I hope his room has a nice desk in it as well. Nice and tidy. I like how he is asking for pricing and such from Nole for the EXACT same place coincidentally. And VOILA! Wifey breadwinner just happens to win a free trip there.

If you get out on the East side of the island in March, definitely look up whale watching. They are there that time of year. Didn't do it as it was end of May.

Thanks for the tips Woodson and everybody else.

The place we stayed last year in Playa Del Carmen was Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Perle.

I wonder why they're all called Paradisus, maybe Wyndham has some sort of deal going on with them.

Should be fun...
