Qualifying match ups in F1, the Goldmine is over for the bettors....

Now that i have a few minutes, let me explain you why i'm gonna take a break this year in F1... :( The Goldmine is over for us and if i was a sportbook, i'll be all smiling because i'm going to make a shit load of money from the poor bettors that we are...:thefinger

They won't have mine and i'm WARNING you to bet somewhere else... (at last at the beginning...)

Here is WHY these new rules in F1 will hurt us...

First of all, most of you already know the new rule of one lap time during the qualifying. No more 3-4 try by any teams. The driver has one chance and if he is doing one little mistake... How will it work to decide who's gonna start first? Friday Free practices will be now very important. The best time by a driver from Friday practice will start last during saturday qualifying and so on (so the worst driver on Friday will be the first one to "qualify" on saturday) but what most of you don't know is THAT NO TEAMS ARE ALLOW TO ADD ANY FUEL BETWEEN THE QUALIFYING AND THE START OF THE RACE!!!:eek: No more warm up on race day... What does it means? (if you're still following my explanation) well we could see one week a BAR or a Minardi at the pole if either team decide to go for the qualifying with a minimum of fuel in their car while the others are going with full tank!!! Yup...:rolleyes: The strategy from the teams will now change. In Australia, the race usually is made with just one pit stop but because of that new rules we might see lots of 2 pit stops or even more! Who has a crystal ball to predict how much fuel each team will use for the qualifying ????:shrug: In addition, DURING the qualifying, a team might change his strategy while it is seeing the others running! You might decide to go for the pole and let the sponsors be happy about it and play it safe for the race and so on...

Wich team might take profit of it the most of the rule? FERRARI!!! They should have the best time on friday so they will qualifying last, will see about the strategy of the others and decide whether they go for it with an empty of a full tank. Does it means we have to bet on Ferrari? NO WAY!!!!!! Anything can happen but it is likely the team that might use that rule with efficiency...

Teams like BAR and Toyota will have a strong car for the qualifying and BAR isn't reliable for a full race. Watch Williams team to have some problems at the beginning of the season (car not as fast as expected and not reliable) while Mc Laren will fight with Ferrari up front. Anyhow... that *** fuel rule is killing us now as bettors. We can't predict what will be the strategy of each teams... Expect lots of "weird" pole position this year... :confused:

With the absence of qualifying match ups lines in Cart well i'm force to take a break this year because i don't want to give the money we've made back to these sportsbooks... I'm just warning you to take it lighlty this years boys... I'm sorry to disappoint some of you but you can't bet of an event like this one now. It's like flipping a coin a calling it head or tails...

You know the deal. Don't play into bad situations. So I commend you for your discipline. You know it's the smart move.

I've been following the F1 rule change a bit. You cleared up any confusion I had. Weird rule. When you're driving 150+ mph, you'd think that minimizing the practice would be a dangerous tactic.

The rule about not allowing more fuel to be added after qualifying looks like a move strictly to break up the Ferrari monopoly. Any trick where they can either get Ferrari off the pole, or at least force Ferrari to make an extra pit stop. I think even the most ardent F1 fan would agree that races in the L2 years became somewhat predictable. Post position from qualifying became a huge hurdle to overcome. How many races did we see Michael make a clean, wire-to-wire run? Maybe too many.

well, 1837 i was waiting for your picks but i guess you are right.

i am italian and obviously a ferrari fan but, seriously the races are getting boring and most italians feel that way. you think with new rules will be at least more fun to watch?

Yes, these rules were made to make it more competitive, more fun to watch but don't worry Italian guy, Ferrari is still on top of the others!;) The only thing is that they won't win championship during the mid-season!:p Mc Laren will kick Williams ass at the beginning of the season, trust me on that one!:)

Man that seems nuts a rule like that. There had to be a easier way then all that. And it,s hard for race day match ups to because who will play the fuel game and who wont. Best to stay out of it. 1837 by friend thanks for explaning. You take care.

1837 let's be realistic. The Ferrari with a full fuel load will still be faster tha a Minardi with very little fuel. The Minardi's are generally about 3-5 seconds slower and a bit of fuel isn't going to make that much of a difference. Also don't forget that teams now get points for 8 positions and 2 teams (Arrow and Prost) are out. So I doubt any team would be stupid enough to go to qualifying with little fuel in hopes of starting up front when they know doing so will kill their chances at points.

I understand what you're saying but I doubt the fuel load will play that much of a factor. What will bring other teams into play is the fact that there are no backup cars allowed. So you may see some teams like Ferrari and Williams back off a bit in qualifying for fear of crashing or blowing an engine since they won't be able to race. This might bring a Renault or Sauber into the equation but I guarantee you Minardi will not get a pole position this year :D

so this is the qualifying order for tomorrow. what is not clear to me is: friday times don't count for the grid, correct? only saturday. so what is the advantage of qualifying last? (Barrichello) I would think the track is cleaner if you qualify first but then again maybe the higher temperature of the asphalt is an davantage, but i am just guessing no idea.

Myron, i wrote Minardi OR BAR and by yesterday's results i'm quite certain now to see an "underdog" during the season! A BAR 3rd and 5th?:eek: I told you these guys were fast! And in addition, Villeneuve had the spare car and no set up at all. Button too didn,t run a lot during practices so both drove without any good set up. Imagine now with a correct set up... Today we will see the "strategy" of the teams. You might be surprise by the results... Mc Laren and Ferrari should be me cautious this year for the qualifying as you said but others teams might not. We know Minardi and Sauber are working for Ferraris so what if they d?cide to have a fast qualifying laps to be up front of Mc Laren and Williams and slow the trafic during the race?

Italianguy, the advantage of starting last for the qualifying is obvious: You will see other's strategy!!!! In addition, track is usually getting better and better during a qualifying session put some rubber on the track and help to get a better time. If you are last, you have the choice of adding more fuel or not depending of other teams time. Great advantage of being in the last bunch! Hope this helps!

Not only that 1837 but they also start qualifying at the hottest time of the day. An hour later the track may cool down a bit which will result in faster times.

As for qualifying I am shocked how fast the BARs were last night but my hunch is that the Ferraris will be somewhere in the 1:24s which will kill any chance BAR has. I also wouldn't count out Montoya just yet although Ralph was just awful.

Well that was certainly a waste of time. Ferrari 1-2 although it did hurt some drivers like Raikkonen, Coulthard and Ralph who are starting way back.

I'm not sure if that was supposed to be more exciting but it sucked. Surely they could have come up with a better qualifying idea than that.:moon:
