i have been a dolphins fan my whole life. does anybody think that they won't suck and have a chance to make the playoffs?

consider this......

before ricky left, and for the last few seasons, they were a team considered by many to have a shot at the superbowl. ricky is back and what has changed? they still have a pretty good defense, which wins championships by the way, and they got rid of the worst coach in football in dave wannestadt. nick saben is a proven winner. i think qb is thier only question, and it is a big one.

the dolphins probably won't make the playoffs this year, but they are not as far away or as bad as most people think. they will upset some people this year. just don't be shocked if they give teams fits all year long.

what do you guys think about this? i would like to know.

Not to dissapoint you, but I feel the Dolphins are destined to be one of the leagues doormats this season. Their offense will struggle because their offensive line is one of the worst units in the league (although their new O-Line Coach Hudson Houck who they brought over from the Chargers is top-rate) and that should hinder both the running game and their ability to protect either Feely or Frerotte. They don't have enough "difference makers" on the offensive side of the ball. As for their defense, I feel it's a unit that will be a mere shadow of the Defenses that their fans are accostomed to seeing. The interior of their D-line is weak with both Larry Chester and Tim Bowens coming off of injuries and being on the decline. They signed two also rans in the off season (Kevin (bust) Carter and Vonnie Holliday to upgrade the line but they too have seen their better days. I like Jason Taylor and feel that second round DE Matt Roth of Iowa is a Player but with the middle of the line being weak it wont bode well for Zach Thomas who is used to having a strong interior line infront of him to keep the O-linmen off is arss. LB'er Junior Seau has seen better days and their secondary has been overhauled since they dealt Patrick Surtain to the Chiefs because of Salary cap reasons and his replacement second year man Will Poole is out for the season after suffering a knee injury in Minicamp. Both their Safeties Tebucky Jones and Traveres Tillmans are new since they cut Arturo Freeman and Sammy Knight because of the Cap as well. It also doesn't help that the Fins have to face the Pats, Jets and Bills twice inside their Division and have a tough schedule outsid their division. My guess is the Dolphins will be picking in the Top 5 of next years NFL Draft, and could own the number one pick overall (and the chance to take USC QB Matt Leinart) after the season plays itself out.
My Pick - Miami 4-12

Glad to see some fellow Dolphins fans!! I've been a huge fin fan for years. They will NOT go 4-12 this season! I'm not saying they will make the playoffs, but they will have a better record than last year. Most definetly! I very much like Nick Saben, but still has to prove himself in the NFL which is a totally different ballgame. I like the pickups they did during the offseason...especially on defense where Saben excells. Picking up "Gus" has me baffled....no clue why they think this guy will lead this team to anything positive. Very disappointed in that pickup. Feely was another joke "hope"for them last year. They need to address this position on this team to go anywhere positive...period!! Yes...the defense and running game will win some games for them, but to get to where they need to be along with the elite teams in the league they need to stop dick'n around with these "average" QB's and go after a proven winner!! What the Ravens did some years back with Dilfer was a miracle. Don't expect just defense and running game to get them far....you NEED a proven QB to get farther than that in the NFL! Very glad to see Ricky back if his head's on right because he's a Top 5 RB when he's on his game and can change an entire game by himself at anytime.

Overall....they will struggle offensivley and have low scoring games mostly winning some close one's. Offensive line better step up or it's going to be a very long year for AJ and Gus on their butts a lot! I would be extatic if they made the playoffs, but not expecting it. Too much offseason turmoil again this year will have them confused...YES I am a bitter Dolphin fan right about now!

Jason Taylor's quote on Ricky coming back...." I don't need an apology...he better just not leave again!"

I was actually being kind when I said the Fins will go 4-12 because when you look at their schedule who the heck are they going to beat to win at least 5 games??

I also like Saban but as they say "your only as good as the horses that pull you" and Saban clearly lacks those horses.

Just my 2 cents! :)

I bet Ricky will be on IR before Week 3. He is back for one reason, and one reason only(it's not because he loves football) The way he runs, is to be a punishing back, and run over people. Don't think his heart is in it.

Great point PoolGuy about Ricky.....he definetly is a head case and probably is back just to satisfy others and not himself. Until he steps on the field only time will tell.....I'm sure the guy wasn't working out and trying to get into his best shape these past many months. He'll probably get hurt early. So much turmoil it seems every damn offseason with this team.....just makes me so furious because I know it's going to be the same old crap from them.....either go 4-12 or barely make the playoffs and get beat by a more elite team. Gotta stay positve, but it's been so difficult these past few years.....it does seem like the front office is trying though which is a good sign. The Gus F signing still has me baffled....I hope they surprise me on that one. Feely will be the man once again I feel and hope he just lives up to the hype he brought with him when he came here....Some compared him to Dan Marino for cry'n out loud...WTF is up with that???
