i'm new to this board. i'm also relatively new to sports betting.

i've been cruising this board for the last few months. i enjoy your posts. they contain a lot of useful information.

you seem to know a lot, and bet a lot of units on different sports.

the question is, is it good to spread your bets out on many teams in many sports? Or is it better to bet a few units and concentrate your efforts in gaining knowledge on one sport at a time?

would appreciate some gambling 101 tips from a savy veteran like you. thanks.

appreciate the good words, however i consider myself to be just one part of a solid community here at jacks. of course every bet we make is an individual risk/investment, but i dont consider myself to be better than anyone or above anyone. i do pride myself in being one of the better ones but i think your post could have been directed to many guys here and i encourage them to offer their opinion.

as far as my opinion specifically, i prefer to play my college sports heavier and my professional sports smaller. thats just my opinion. i dont have a lot of deviation in my unit value or exposure each weekend. i found that for college football, 4-7 plays per weekend is about what i end up playing. rarely any more than that, rarely any less. pro football is normally 2-3 games a sunday. nba hoops is rarely pick-and-choose for me. season's been going on for a few weeks now and ive only played 5 games. just a matter of preference i guess.

welcome to the board and gl.
i can assure you there are many solid guys here, and some of them dont get the credit they deserve because they dont necessarily post plays. just try to be a sponge and soak up a lot of different perspectives and apply them as you see fit.

Have to open my big mouth here.

Learn to handicap one sport and one sport only.

Learn it inside out, backward, forward and upside down.

At the start of your handicapping odyssey, I suggest you humble yourself and admit you don't know anything about handicapping because those of us who have been doing this a long time (such as yours truly) still don't know anything (or not nearly as much as we'd like to think we know).

You have started out on the right foot by asking questions of experienced handicappers. There is a big difference between a handicapper and a sportsbettor. Ask questions of serious minded handicappers. Familiarize yourself with the different types of general handicapping methods.

Lastly, know your opponent (and it ain't the other team).

i've been following the nfl for years. i know the teams fairly well. i will start with a few plays and go from there.

glad the atmosphere here is one of "there's no such thing as a dumb question".
