How is the Divisional round of the playoffs determined. I understand the seedings etc, but who determines when the Pats play and Atlanta and so on...

IE...

Why do the Jets get an extra day of rest compared to Balty???

Do the top teams get to pick their schedule or does the NFL have a system for it?

The only thing I can add is that is it is pre-determined before the playoffs start.

Regardless of who was going to be playing them, Pittsburgh was hosting their game Saturday & New England Sunday @ 4:30 & in the NFC Atlanta on Saturday night & Chicago on Sunday.

I understand that but who determined that the Pats played on Sunday and the Falcons played on Sat...and Pitt as well for Sat?

I'm thinking it's the networks as well but I can't find it anywhere...

I believe it switches each year. The #1 NFC team played Sunday last year, the #1 AFC team played Saturday.

TV decides who plays when, not on what days.

actually fox and nbc rotate each year who gets the sat prime time game but the nfl/networks determine who to put in each slot

last year both 1's played sat....no/az early, indy/balt primetime

this year fox gets the sat night slot and decided to put atl in that slot, forcing chi to sun.....then the nfl/cbs decided to put pitt on sat and ne on sun (just worked out this year that the 1's were on different days)

Just a matter of opinion.....

At 1st glance from a public eye.....

I`m actually talking about ratings from the start...

I believe the public would be more enticed to see a....

Ravens-Steelers or Jets-Patriots game on a Saturday night at 8PM opposed to a Packers-Falcons game.

I personally would not go out of my way to watch the Packers-Falcons.....

But,i would do so for the Steelers-Ravens....Smash mouth football played outdoors...Excellent rivalry.....And i`m not a fan of either.

unfortunately this year the nfc/fox get the sat night timeslot so the only choice was atl at home on a sat night or chi at home on a sat night

Jets/Pats would of been great for Saturday night but I am maybe just one of the few who would not go out of my way for Pitt/Balty.. We have seen that rerun over and over and over again..

I agree....Imo the Balt / Pitt game is more attractive than the GB / Atl game & should switch time with one another....

By the way, more people watch TV on Sunday evening than on Saturday evening....
