A group of friends are putting together a hold em tournament -- should be two tables to start of about 8 per table -- the top 3 from each table will move on the the final table.

My question is, what should our blinds be to keep the game moving at a decent pace -- in other words if we are starting with $100 each, what should the blinds be when we have two tables and what should be increase them to when we have narrowed it down to 6 players.

Also, when should we be increasing the blinds?

THX for the help.

I play locally in a tourney like this once a month. He has 3 tables, 10 to a table. Each player starts with 1000 in chips. Blinds start 15/30, move to 30/60 and so on. Changes every 30 minutes. Hope this helps a little. You also can sweeten the pot with addons and rebuys.

I play where everyone gets 10,000 points in chips. The blinds start at 100, 200 then go to 200, 400, then to 300, 500 then to 500, 1000 and then double from there. The blinds change every 20 minutes. We play with 10 to a table. So with 8 to a table and the same time frame- your game will move along quite nicely but not too fast that people will feel blinded out quickly.

We do no add on's or re-buys. I have played in them before but not anymore. Removing those second chance options makes the game much more interesting knowing if you're caught in a bluff you're out. You would think that by removing add ons and re-buys would tighten up the game, but it really doesn't. At least not in my experience.
