This comes under the heading of "Things I had no idea about". Wanted to celebrate my half year at the new job by buying a new Tag watch. Have never owned a watch that cost more than a couple hundred bucks in my entire life, figured it was about time and since I have always wanted one, I said f-it I'm doing it. Anyway, I was looking at a specific couple of styles I really like but at the first couple of places I went, they said "Oh and we can offer you 15%/20% off the MSRP on all our Tags."

I have found it for slightly cheaper at some online stores but would never buy something like this online, I just use it to gauge what they are charging. I never thought buying a watch was like buying a car, anyone - is this standard practice?

Ace--You will find that on all high-priced jewelry. The price tag on any expensive jewelry is merely something that they can show how much cheaper you're going to get it from them. You can usually get it insured at the price tag level, but that is all.

My suggestion: Lose the phobia about on-line, go to a reputable site, and save yourself some cash. OR wait until your honeymoon and buy it duty-free somewhere.;)

i have bought all my watches from stores, price difference isn't everything. if you have any problems or you need a new strap or you just have to adjust your strap you can take it back to the store you bought one. not just start sending e-mails to get some service and then send a few more to get your watch back.

i have several Omega watches ( speedmaster day-date automatic is my favourite http://www.skw.net/watch.php?model=MOD.+OM+708 )

i hope you find a time piece that you like

Pet, I love the Omegas, good taste it looks just like the Tag I want. I agree that I would rather pay the extra couple hundred bucks to buy it at a local jewler so if anything happens they can be the ones fixing it, not some FedEx drop box.

I agree. I think you would be surprised about how over-the-top some of these web-based businesses are. They know that it is their life-line.

Ace--I almost bought the exact watch when I was on my honeymoon. I decided to wait on the purchase, though.

Oh, James.......

"I HAVENT WORN A WATCH IN 15 YEARS THEY ARE GAY"

So, you haven't been gay for 15 years now? Good for you, stud! Thank God you were back in the day! ;)

Let's face the facts, son..........a cell phone is far more 'gay' than a wrist watch. I've never wanted to punch an alter boy for wearing a watch, but when their damned cell phone goes off while I'm "delivering the gospel", I just want to give 'em a donkey punch!

Sure, a watch with a twist/link band might snag a few pubes on a reach around, but that's just a little more pain in the old offering plate! ;)

(Now you know why I always gave you the leather bands.)

A time piece is always practicle, while a cell phone has always been more about the "look'. In my book, and that's the Good Book, flash means trash.

I think you are just mad because every time you ask someone what time it is, they shout:

"Time to pay the man, again!!!!!"

Shop around at several high-end pawn shops and you will save 40-50% on your watch (or any jewelry purchase for that matter).

Also, many local jewelers deal in slightly used watches with substantial discounts from retail.

Nobody will know if you don't tell 'em.

This may be a first but I have to respectfully disagree with my friend beantownjim. Watches are not gay, Jim, at least not all watches.

I admit you do have a point about The Duke and The Rifleman but perhaps it has to do with the time frame in which their characters were performing.
