this is going to be a “yep i thought so” for sure, it’s not fair, its rare, but by the letter of the law so to speak i think its a valid bet and i’m going to lose… anyway:

So i had garrett, starter for MIA to record Over 4.5 k’s today.

he had 3k thru 3 ip. Then a 4 hour weather delay which ends any starting pitchers outting.

i’m fine not getting the win, that stinks but its the breaks, what im not fine with is if its a loss. And my gut says it will be

i know there are complicated rules on weather in baseball and void or not void, but for continued games after a delay (anything short of postponed or completed as a shortened final where the full innings weren’t played) all bets stand.

now in my case, with B Garrett, obviously the game was cancelled for all intents and purposes by the 4 hour delay.

i didnt bet on him to get over 4.5 ks in 3 innings, if he got injured, or left the game b/c his vag was aching, bad on me i get screwed. But i went from essentially a 80%+ chance of winning to a loss, b/c of an act of god. If he came back and pitched the 4th after the delay and never got another hitter out, thats fair. I would say the weather “couldve” cost me to lose, but in this case theres no maybe coulda woulda about it. He was never going to throw another pitch in that game and probably knew it before they had the tarp all the way onto the field.

so im pretty sure the outcome will be a valid bet, ruled a loss as he did not record over 4.5 k’s.

But my question is ,does any smarter mind than mine have a good argument to state my case? Ive seen the term unconditionally determined used a lot. This bet was not unconditionally determined, we’ll never know b/c of a weather delay that led to him never facing another batter.

i know, its one of those “yes its unfair, but you’re not gonna win” cases in all likelihood. And to be clear, i dont deserve to win the bet, him having 3ks in 3 ip is actually not relevant. Its the fact he didnt get the opportunity due to weather which is supposed to matter in baseball.

Any ideas? Am i right that its gonnna be a tough shit loss?

thx guys
