In Wednesday?s paper, I have a look at the Colonial Athletic Associatino men?s basketball schedule and the challenges behind creating it and playing it. (Read it here.) It?s a slog for everybody trying to fit 18 conference games into two months, but it?s harder for some than others.

The start was a bear across the board with four games in eight days. UNCW probably had the easiest road of anybody. The Seahawks had three home games, including a pair against struggling Delaware and Drexel. It balances out because they have three straight road games coming up with trips to contenders William & Mary and Hofstra.

It?s entirely debatable who has the toughest schedule. A full discussion would like more closely at who you play and when. Coaches, understandably, aren?t great fans of quick turnarounds. Some of them are in the interest of cutting down on trips and others are more to fit the television schedule. It?s not ideal, but it?s a fact of life in the conference.

?I say we start college basketball in September, so we can spread it out a little bit,? Elon?s Matt Matheny joked at CAA Media Day. (I think he was joking, anyway.)

This year, there are a few who have stronger arguments than the rest. I took a look at who has them and whether they have to travel or not.

Remember, every team has already had two of these two-games-in-three-day stretches. That means Hofstra doesn?t have to do any more one-day preps the rest of the season. UNCW has just one more when it picks up Delaware and Towson with the same trip on Feb. 19 and 21. Elon, by contrast, has three left, but they?re all entirely at home. Just another thing to keep in mind as we head toward the stretch run.

Team Home Road Split Total
Drexel 1 2 2 5
Elon 3 1 1 5
Towson 1 1 2 4
CofC 2 1 1 4
Northeastern 0 3 1 4
James Madison 0 1 3 4
UNCW 1 1 1 3
Delaware 0 2 1 3
W&M 0 1 2 3
Hofstra 0 1 1 2
