I have to go visit a woman friend of mine, older woman she just came home from the hopital, and then had a short stay at a rehad center!!! She has cancer in between her disks in her back she was told that if she recieved the operation that she would not have any more pain, but there was a small chance she would not be able to walk again. I incouraged her when I last spoke to her to go for it......It also was life saving.....This woman has been fighting cancer for years and this seems to be close to an end!!!! I'm so uncomfortable with the whole cituation....... WHAT DO I SAY TO HER???????? SHE WAS ONE OF THE SMALL PERCENT WHO CAN NO LONGER WALK:shrug: Man this sucks I know just showing up and being her friend is great, but it was much easier to just send things to the hospital and rehab and write in a card for she did not want visitors!!!!!!!! I'm afraid I'll cry when I see her:( I guess I just act normal BUT I've been pretty fortunate in my short lived lifetime and never relly had to deal with anyone really close to me having health problems. ANY ADVICE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

TBONZ-

I lived the last 6 months with a Brain Cancer patient. There is little you can say. I found that he just wanted normal conservation about politics and the like. Just talk to her like you always have that's what she wants the most.

Good Luck.

what blazer said is good advice. Also, sometime during your visit, do this. Instead of saying the worn out, "If there's anything I can do, let me know," say this instead: can I go out and do some grocery shopping for you or let me do those dishes while I'm here, or do u need any errands run, I'm going to be out all day, etc. Offer to do something specific instead of something general. People often hate to ask for help but will often jump on a specific offer of help. Women are generally good listeners in conversation, and that's probably one of the main things she needs now.
