Fair Grounds

Race #1 - Post: 1:25pm
Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt.
Purse: $15,000 Class Rating: 68

Rating: Golden Three and a half Golden Dollars out of Four

Play #6 CRIMSON FELINE (ML=4/1)

CRIMSON FELINE - The rider/trainer duo of Ramgeet and Richards has a strong return on investment together. Comes out of a last race against 'open' company on Jan 7th and faces what I believe are easier 'state breds' today. Could be an overlay in this field at odds of 4/1. Finished fourth in last race at Fair Grounds but was close at the end. Entered a $12,500 Claiming race at Fair Grounds in the last race and raced on the mud finishing fourth. Has to do better right here. Recent Equibase speed figures show solid pattern of improvement.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 REALITY IS GREAT (ML=3/1), #7 MOMENT OF GRACE (ML=9/2), #4 SMILEY BRILEY (ML=5/1),

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Put your money on #6 CRIMSON FELINE on the nose if you can get odds of 3/2 or more.

Track: Turf Paradise
Race: Race 4

Monday's 4th race (4:08pm ET) from Turf Paradise is a $3,500 claiming event for 4-year-olds and up dashing five furlongs on the main track.

#1 Da Fastest One (6-1) was not very fast in his last two synthetic starts at Golden Gate for Hollendorfer. He showed good early speed and finished 3rd (beaten 1 length) at Stockton 4+ months ago and can compete here with that kind of effort. He sports one local work and has the profitable Barton/Lucarelli team in his corner.

#6 My Grandson (7-5) dueled and finished 3rd as the favorite when dropped to this level at six furlongs here Jan 18. Lopez is a profitable 3-for-11 with Metz and his lone win was at this abbreviated distance on NoCal turf last summer.

The Play: #1 Da Fastest One to Win

Tuesday's 1st race (2:40pm ET) from Turf Paradise is a $3,000 claiming event for fillies and mares dashing five and one-half furlongs on the main track.

#1 Severed Ties (4-1) finished 3rd as the favorite from the outside post at five furlongs vs. this kind here Jan 9. The 6-time local winner hails from a profitable barn and the tactical type finished 2nd and 1st the last two times she broke from the rail.

Gulfstream Park - Race #3 - Post: 1:35pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 79

Rating: Four Golden Dollars out of Four

#12 DESCARADO (ML=9/2)

DESCARADO - This trainer brings horses to the turf ready to go, winning over 20 percent of the time under similar conditions. Just missed hitting the board on January 14th at Gulfstream Park. With decent morning odds today, she has my interest. LOVE FLUTE - A horse coming back this quickly after a good outing is a good sign. After a pair of sprints, she's routing today, which is probably what this mare wants to do.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 HANOVER HONEY (ML=7/2), #11 STARSHIP HOSTILITY (ML=4/1), #3 TZI OUR DESTINY (ML=5/1),

HANOVER HONEY - The finish of 12th in the last race shows me that this animal may be going off form.
STARSHIP HOSTILITY - This equine doesn't have a champion's disposition. Habitually finishes close, but no cigar. TZI OUR DESTINY - Speed ratings of 75/70/48 are headed in the wrong direction. You always believe this animal has a shot to be victorious, but she fails often. This racer has not tallied a victory here today in 13 starts. Little chance she wins today. Will be tough for this thoroughbred to beat this field off of that last speed rating. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's Equibase class figure, so put her on the vulnerable contenders list.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#12 DESCARADO is the play if we get odds of 3/2 or better

Rating: Four Golden Dollar out of Four

#3 CHINA BELLA (ML=8/1)
#10 SIMPLY MAGIC (ML=9/2)
#5 ROSEBUD'S TIGER (ML=5/1)
#2 EVER ARCH (ML=10/1)

CHINA BELLA
- This racer ran off the board at Gulfstream Park last out on the soft turf. She should improve in this event without a sloppy track. I like this filly. Has the topmost earnings per start in today's contest. SIMPLY MAGIC - Look for this filly to run much better right here in this race. Last race at Gulfstream Park finishing sixth on the soft turf is no indication of her true talent. ROSEBUD'S TIGER - I'm focusing on the class of this magnificent animal, and this one is the 'classiest' of the bunch. Petro is sharp with any magnificent animal racing 1st time after a claim. The trainer is very good with those types. EVER ARCH - Trainer, Tomlinson, has been deliberate with this filly off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. Running 7 1/2 furlongs on the grass, you've have to look at horse's turf figures. This horse has the tops in the bunch. Horse made up some ground down the stretch last race out on Jan 6th at Gulfstream Park. That contest is better than it looked.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 RAISEDTOBEAWARRIOR (ML=4/1), #1 PENNETTA (ML=6/1), #7 CAPRIASCA (ML=6/1),

RAISEDTOBEAWARRIOR - Won't be easy for this thoroughbred to beat this group off of that last speed figure. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class figure, so put her on the possibly overvalued equines list. PENNETTA - This pony ran a most unsatisfactory speed fig last time out. She shouldn't improve and will likely get beat in today's race running that fig. CAPRIASCA - When looking at today's Equibase class figure, she will have to earn a better speed figure than last out to be competitive in this turf sprint.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Putting our cash on #3 CHINA BELLA to win. Have to have odds of at least 7/2 or better though

Track: Santa Anita Park
Race: 1/28/2016 - Race 8
Author: mdracing69
Amount Bet: $30.40
Amount Cashed: $0.00

Thursday's 8th race (4:33pm PT) from Santa Anita is a $20,000 Maiden Claiming event for fillies and mares dashing six furlongs on the main track.

#7 Bolt Up (5-1) traveled around two turns in her last pair and finished 2nd (blinkers on) Dec 20 and 4th (blinkers off) Jan 7. She gets in light with quality apprentice Lopez and Wong is 4-for-8 route/sprint. Blinkers are back on today and she was 3rd in a similar local sprint after a long layoff a few months ago.

#4 Rockport Dancer (3-1) is 0-for-10 but drops out of the special weight ranks for the first time and sharp local rider Gonzalez strings along.

#3 Miss Bliss (5-2) hit the board in her last three and the fresh filly drops to the $20k level for the first time.

#11 Sweeter Thancandy (7-2) missed by a neck as the heavy favorite in her first start at the $20k level Jan 8. Bejarano rides back.

#6 Sheswildnfree (12-1) switches to barn $$ rider Gutierrez and Eurton shows a profit 2nd off the shelf.

The Plays:

$18 to win #7 Bolt Up

$2 Exacta Box 4-7 ($4)

.10 cent Superfecta 4-7/3-4-7/ALL/3-4-6-7-11 ($8.40)

Rating: Golden Dollars out of Four

#3 FIRSTRATE PROPOSAL (ML=8/1)
#8 PRINCESS DROSSIE (ML=6/1)
#12 MAKE IT MARIA (ML=5/1)

FIRSTRATE PROPOSAL
- Nice return on investment for this jock and conditioner duet. Last raced at Turfway Park with a poor post position. I swiped some data from The Brain, and his computer says the inside should be a big help to this one today. Have to give this filly a good shot. Ran a strong outing last out within the last thirty days. Lets try to beat the morning-line choices with this filly. Just missed last out, but ran a decent race. PRINCESS DROSSIE - This filly is in nice form. Finished second on Dec 31st. Mojica is right back for another race today after racing atop this equine for the first ride on Dec 31st and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. I think that the addition of blinkers today will keep her mind on the race at hand. Recent Equibase speed figures show powerful pattern of improvement. MAKE IT MARIA - Combs brings her right back. I recommend you stay with this live filly.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 WONDERFUL REMARK (ML=5/2), #10 PICK POCKET (ML=3/1), #2 C J'S FIRE (ML=8/1),

WONDERFUL REMARK - You should normally wager against favorites that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last three weeks. Hasn't been winning of late when made the chalk horse. Take a look at her record. PICK POCKET - This thoroughbred hasn't shown much effort in the last couple of races. C J'S FIRE - Would have to get more than the morning line odds of 8/1 to bet on this thoroughbred.

FIRSTRATE PROPOSAL - One of my favorite angles is a longshot that has the top TrackMaster Power Rating.

#3 SEA LUCY'S REALITY
(ML=9/2)
#11 ANDREA REESE (ML=10/1)
#8 FLAMING SHADOW (ML=12/1)

SEA LUCY'S REALITY - Dropping 11 pounds from last race. Could be a deciding factor today. ANDREA REESE - When Quinonez and Cline unite on animals the ROI has been terrific at +297. Generally speaking, horses on Lasix for the first time should be considered. That's what we have here. FLAMING SHADOW - State bred races are generally easier than 'open' company, and this filly's move into the 'state bred' class today should make her tough in here. Hale is trying the 'shades' on today. Note that this animal worked from the gate in a morning prep, most likely in blinkers.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 MARY LOU (ML=7/2), #4 INNOCENT STORM (ML=5/1), #1 EL I DECLAIRE (ML=8/1),

MARY LOU - Really had to show me much more last time around the track. Never made much of an impact. The Equibase speed figures are going downward. I'm not throwing a few bucks at this less than sharp equine off of that trend. INNOCENT STORM - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance races of late. Improbable to see her doing it this time out either. EL I DECLAIRE - Trying to beat this one this time around at the price of 8/1.

#3 IPRAY (5-1) reunites with winning rider Bejarano and can improve 2nd off the shelf at her favorite distance (4-2-1-0).

#4 Amberella (8-5) landed in the Exacta in 4 of 5 starts and she likes this oval. Quality apprentice Lopez rides back for D?Amato.

#6 Mudge (5-1) remains above her $8k claimed price and I always consider horses from the sneaky Sierra barn for my Trifecta/Superfecta tickets. She goes turf/dirt and has hit the board in 5 of 11 local outings.

Post: 3:32pm - Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,600 Class Rating: 76

Rating: 3.5 Golden Dollars

#8 BAYOU ST JOHN (ML=3/1)
#6 DAVID'S BREW (ML=15/1)

BAYOU ST JOHN - Dropping down in class figure points from his January 19th race at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. Based on that data point, I will give this horse the edge. DAVID'S BREW - This gelding should give a strong account of himself in today's race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 FALSE POSITIVE (ML=7/2), #5 PONTUAL (ML=9/2), #2 RECONDO (ML=5/1),

FALSE POSITIVE - This colt almost certainly won't be right there at the wire. PONTUAL - Last ran on Jan 24th at Turfway Park, finishing fifth. Not likely to advance off of that try today. RECONDO - Could be tough for this thoroughbred to beat this group off of that last speed figure. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's Equibase class figure, so put him on the likely underlays list.

#2 Lady Sebago (5-1) had a very productive juvenile campaign in 2014 but lost her way and went winless in five starts last year. The fresh filly drops out of the stakes ranks and reunites with the only rider to win with her (Trevor McCarthy, 6 for his last 14). She would not mind a wet track and this looks like a good spot to get her career back on track.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #1 - Post: 12:45pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $7,000 Class Rating: 66

Rating: Four Golden Dollars

O'BANNON BOY - Getting a weight break of 5 pounds from last race at Mahoning Valley Race Cour on January 19th. Certainly could make the difference in this race. WOSSAMOTTA U - Has found a soft spot today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 WEST TERRACE (ML=9/5), #4 RISING CREEK (ML=3/1), #9 IMAGE OFA PRINCE (ML=4/1),

WEST TERRACE - This morning-line choice may be out of shape without any recent morning drills. RISING CREEK - Earned a quite unimpressive speed rating last time out in a $5,000 Maiden Claiming race on Jan 19th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that number. IMAGE OFA PRINCE - Doubtful that the speed fig he recorded on January 19th will be good enough in this event.

#5 Lilies and Roses (8-1) made a middle move before weakening in a race origininally scheduled for turf here Jan 15. She can move forward on turf 2nd off the shelf for the profitable Gallardo/O'Connell team.

2/4/2016

Race 7

Thursday's 7th race (4:03pm PT) from Santa Anita is an Optional Claiming event for 3-year-olds traveling one mile on the main track.

#1 Street Vision (6-1) exits a close 4th behind highly regarded Hollendorfer trainee I Will Score. I have been waiting for this one to try two turns (Street Sense/Stormy Atlantic) for the productive Bejarano/Glatt team and he broke his maiden at Santa Anita. The inside post is the place to be at this distance, especially if you have speed, and he should be forwardly placed going sprint/route.

Play Thursday's Santa Anita games at DerbyWars.com

#8 Danzing Candy (5-2) exits a fast extended sprint wire-to-wire maiden win here and was flattered when the clear runner-up returned to score. Speed rules at this distance and he might go all the way again under Smith.

#3 French Getaway (4-1) is on the upswing for Hess and clearly enjoyed the route game in his local maiden win under Kent D Dec 27. This one mile distance has not been kind to patient runners and he might have to settle for a minor award if the speed trend continues.

February 5th at Fair Grounds Race #5

Fair Grounds - Race #5 - Post: 3:25pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $40,000 Class Rating: 76

Rating: Golden Dollar, Golden Dollar, Golden Dollar, Golden Dollar

#8 HYPER PIPER (ML=8/1)
#2 UNO MORE (ML=12/1)
#1 GRAND FAREWELL (ML=10/1)

#8 - Hyper Piper Ran Out of the Money

HYPER PIPER - Horse got beat up in her 1st race. With a clean race, I look for this one to hit the wire first. Entered a Maiden Special race at Fair Grounds in the last race and raced on a track listed as good finishing fifth. Have to give a better effort today. I always like to see a filly getting Lasix for the second time. This one fits the bill. Thoroughbred didn't land in the top three in last race, but did beat half the field, and made up ground down the stretch. A slight improvement and this horse should be right there at the wire. UNO MORE - The 'x-factor' at work here is that this filly has been working over this track getting ready for her first start. The jockey and handler combination have a favorable ROI when they combine forces. GRAND FAREWELL - Outran her odds in her first start. Look for another strong effort today. Stall has an 'uncoupled' entry here. Best to beware of the longer priced half. Expect better today as this filly gets Lasix for the 2nd time.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 IDE BIDUADEAU (ML=3/1), #3 CARLITA SHAKE (ML=4/1), #9 ET'S DOLL (ML=5/1),

IDE BIDUADEAU - Today's event is 6 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a short distance contest in the last couple months. Not the greatest of signs. Finished fourth in her most recent performance with a pedestrian speed rating. When I look at today's Equibase class figure, it would take an improved performance to prove victorious after that in this bunch. CARLITA SHAKE - This filly most likely won't be on the money at the finish. ET'S DOLL - Don't feel this runner will do much running in today's race. That last speed fig was substandard when compared with today's class rating.

#6 BRIANA JEAN (ML=3/1)
#3 JUJU'S MOJO (ML=5/1)

BRIANA JEAN - When Lopez and Metz join forces on horses the ROI has been fabulous at +111. This filly's last rating earned on Dec 26th is utmost in last race speed figs. JUJU'S MOJO - Sherman has an 'uncoupled' entry here. Best to beware of the longer priced half.

Vulnerable Contenders: #9 PULPIT RULES (ML=2/1), #5 SARNO'S B F F (ML=9/2),

PULPIT RULES - Mediocre speed rating in the last race at Golden Gate Fields at 6 furlongs. Don't think this pony will improve too much in today's event. SARNO'S B F F - I'd like to see more hospitable recent efforts with M/L odds of 9/2.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - BRIANA JEAN - Earnings per start is a sign of class. I often play horses like this one that are tops in the group in earnings per start.

#3 KISS ME FOREVER (ML=5/1)
#6 CHARMING TALULLAH (ML=6/5)

KISS ME FOREVER - Mare was beaten as the public choice in a $16,000 Claiming race last time out. Was a good race even though she finished fourth. This horse is uppermost in earnings per start. She looks solid in today's clash. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where she finished in her last race (fourth). Should improve in this race, with some pretty good odds. CHARMING TALULLAH - Rounding her way back into form. Each of her finish positions is getting better in her recent starts. Trainer Cowans moves this horse down in class ranks to face weaker company. Look for a sharp performance this time out. This filly is in exceptional form right now. Ran third last out and comes back soon.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 HIDDAI (ML=5/2), #1 LADY PRADO (ML=4/1), #4 BURSTALL (ML=8/1),

HIDDAI - 5/2 is too low of a price to take on most any horse that has run poorly in back to back races around the track. LADY PRADO - 3 year old versus older for the first time is a tough one. Have to see this effort first. This filly earned a speed figure in her last race which probably isn't good enough in today's race. BURSTALL - This horse hasn't been around in either of her last couple of races. The bang up job in the last race may knock this mare off stride today.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - KISS ME FOREVER - Analysis shows this mare's last speed number of 84 is as good as any. Don't overlook this mare in your betting.

#3 Kiss Me Forever ran 3rd and paid 0.00 0.00 and 2.10

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #3 KISS ME FOREVER on the win end if we get at least 9/5 odds

Rating: Golden Dollar, Golden Dollar, Golden Dollar and Golden Dollar

#1 S'MAVERLOUS (ML=3/1)

S'MAVERLOUS - Is ranked number one in the field in earnings per start. A strong try in this event can increase the lifetime earnings. Changes tracks from last out at Oaklawn Park to here. Multiple wins on different ovals tell me this animal likes to switch it up, so that's a good sign. Last time out, ran the last quarter in less than 25 ticks. A good indication he can close well, and should be right there at the end this time.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 THE SANDMAN (ML=5/2), #4 TARPY'S GOAL (ML=3/1), #5 COIN BROKER (ML=6/1),

THE SANDMAN - Hasn't been on the Fair Grounds oval in the last three weeks. Cause for some concern. When examining today's Equibase class figure, he will have to notch a much better fig than last time out to be competitive in this dirt route. TARPY'S GOAL - When scrutinizing today's class rating, he will have to record a much better speed fig than last out to compete in this dirt route. COIN BROKER - This racer hasn't shown much life in the last couple events. Not probable that the rating he earned on January 16th will be enough in this race.

#1 S'maverlous ran second and paid 0.00 4.20 3.40

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#1 S'MAVERLOUS to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better

#8 LEGAL TECHNICALITY
(ML=8/1)
#7 GOOD GATOR (ML=4/1)
#10 YESIMDREAMING (ML=9/2)

LEGAL TECHNICALITY - Average class rating is tops in this field. I think that is a big edge for a race on the turf. You'll be generating money right and left by turning your racing money onto this rider/trainer combination. This mare has been posting some excellent workout times. Look for this one to go straight to the finish line at some respectable odds in this race. Ran ninth in last race, but not more than five from the lead at the end. GOOD GATOR - This filly is in good condition, having run a strong race on Jan 14th, finishing second. Comparing how the horses in this field have fared under similar conditions, I see this one has the highest speed figure for the distance-surface. This filly has a lot of ability on the turf. Could be long gone by the time they hit the eighth pole. YESIMDREAMING - Trainer Mouton moves this one to a lower class rank to face a weaker level today. Look for a sharp effort given the class advantage. Taking this jock/handler combination is a good move. This thoroughbred collects a lot of dough per start. I believe she can increase that total in this field.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 OSIER (ML=7/2), #6 CHORUS (ML=9/2), #2 SPARTANBURG (ML=6/1),

OSIER - Hard to keep chasing this kind of 'bridesmaid' horse. This filly probably needs a better pace situation to make her closing move. CHORUS - Based on the pace scenario in this race, this horse doesn't fit in here. With a single front-runner and this horse having to race from behind, she sure has a tough assignment. Don't think this entrant will make an impact in today's event. That last speed rating was most unsatisfactory when compared with today's Equibase class figure. SPARTANBURG - This animal hasn't been close in either of her last two races. This filly raced better than average on Jan 14th ending up fifth, but hasn't even visited the track since then. Not really a good sign. This sustainer should have a rough go of it to be along with the shortage of early speed in this race.

#8 Legal Technicality ran 3rd paying 0.00 0.00 4.80

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Bet on #8 LEGAL TECHNICALITY to win if you can get at least 4/1 odds

#7 RAVELO'S BOY (ML=5/1)

#7 RAVELO'S BOY ran out of the money.

RAVELO'S BOY - If the speed horses get weary, this horse will kick into high gear. This horse is probably the best stretch runner in the field. YOU CAN'T STOP ME - I really like that most recent outing on January 29th at Gulfstream Park where he finished second. Jockey jumped on this gelding's back for the first attempt on January 29th. Should be acquainted with the animal even better in this race. Gelding is a few starts into a comeback here. Should give a big performance today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 UNION LABEL (ML=8/5), #9 BIG GRANDPA (ML=4/1), #8 DANGEROUS BREW (ML=6/1),

UNION LABEL - January 10th is the last time we've seen this gelding around. Have to be a little bit leery. BIG GRANDPA - This horse didn't do much last time out of the box finishing seventh. Don't see any chance of any betterment in today's race. DANGEROUS BREW - Usually I need a sprinter to have some recent success in short distance events in order to play him. When examining today's class figure, he will have to register a much better fig than last time around the track to compete in this dirt sprint.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Go with #7 RAVELO'S BOY on top if we're getting at least 2/1 odds

#3 MISTER DAZE (ML=2/1)

MISTER DAZE
- When Couton and Wright combine forces on animals the return on investment has been wonderful at +37. I like to see fast drills. This gelding's last one was very good. Second fastest of the day. As the only front-runner in the race, I expect this gelding to be long gone.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 OUR BROTHER B. A. (ML=8/5), #4 FISHERS CROSS (ML=5/2), #2 NATIVE CAUSEWAY (ML=8/1),

OUR BROTHER B. A. - I can't play this continual non-winner. Gets the job executed from time to time. FISHERS CROSS - Tough to bet on any horse to turn things around if there is no value to taking the chance. NATIVE CAUSEWAY - This thoroughbred just hasn't looked ready of late.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Putting our cash on #3 MISTER DAZE to win. Have to have odds of at least 1/1 or better though
