RE: Aston Villa - Tottenham (EPL)
I have been dabbling in the European sports betting arena for about 6 months now. Strange, but interesting.
Anyway, since I saw some soccer posts, here's my play:
22-11-2004 20:00 (Game starts @ 12PM PST)
Fixed odds (1x2): ASTON VILLA TO WIN 1.90 or -110
5.5 units to win 5.0
Aston Villa are in decent form at home, having won four and drawn two of their last six games, These high-scoring games have yielded a total of 13 goals for the Villans, with 4 goals against.
Tottenham H.'s away form is equally impressive, picking up four victories from the last six. Those games have seen the Spurs pummel 14 goals, and let in 6.
Aston Villa's 21 points from 13 games sees them lie inside the top half of the table, in 7th position. Tottenham H. find themselves struggling down in 14th position in the league having picked up 13 points from their 13 matches.
Sequence statistics:
Aston Villa
Unbeaten in the last 7 home games.
Unbeaten run of 3 matches.
Tottenham H.
7 games since last away draw.
Last drawn game 11 outings ago.
Aston Villa and Tottenham currently appear to be two clubs going in different directions. David O?Leary?s side have won their last two matches and look to be mounting a challenge for a European place.
BACKGROUND
That was Spurs? target for the season and looked a realistic one at the start of the campaign, although much has changed since then and they now find themselves in the bottom six after five successive defeats in the league.
O?Leay told Villa?s website: ?Spurs are a big name club like ourselves, with a big stadium.
"In the time that I?ve been at Villa, Spurs have signed about 14 players. Some of them have been real quality.
"They have a lot of new players and have the same ambitions as us, to get up to the big boys. We both have a long way to go before we can catch them."
Aston Villa also boast an unbeaten home record in all competitions this season, however, Martin Jol?s team have picked up more points on their travels than they have at home.
TEAM FORM
Aston Villa: LWLDWW
Following the 3-1 defeat in the Carling Cup to Burnley has been followed by an impressive seven points from an available nine. They firstly drew away to Everton before cruising to a 3-0 win at home to Portsmouth and coming from behind to win 2-1 at Bolton.
Tottenham: LWLLWL
Spurs beat the conquerors of Aston Villa in the Carling Cup in Jol?s first game in charge, but the 3-0 win at Burnley was followed the extraordinary 5-4 defeat at home to Arsenal that brought optimism and fear in equal measures. It was the fifth successive league defeat after losses to Charlton, Portsmouth, Fulham and Bolton.
TEAM NEWS
O?Leary must decided whether to reward Thomas Hitzlsperger with a place in the starting line-up after his delightful winner against Bolton last weekend. If he is handed a starting role he will probably replace youngster Peter Whittingham on the left flank.
Jol may have to make changes to the centre of Spurs? defence, which would make sense following the North London debacle. However, injuries are forcing the hand of the Dutchman, who recalled Calum Davenport from his loan at West Ham. Ledley King is expected to be fit though despite missing out on England?s trip to Madrid. Timothee Atouba is also available once more after a knee injury, but Sean Davis is still on the sidelines.
PROBABLE STARTING LINE-UPS
Aston Villa: Sorensen; De la Cruz, Mellberg, Samuel, Delaney; Solano, Hendrie, McCann, Whittingham; Angel, Cole,
Tottenham: Robinson; Pamarot, King, Naybet, Edman; Davies, Mendes, Carrick, Ziegler; Keane, Defoe.
GOOD LUCK,
JD
