--The Dallas Morning News

It sounds preposterous, but Iowa State can beat Texas Tech this weekend in Ames. Can, probably won't, but can. The Cyclones may be the most annoying team in the Big 12, an impressive feat considering how many pretender teams this conference features (looking at you, Kansas, Colorado, Baylor).

The Red Raiders are favored by 7 points against Iowa State.

Tech hasn't played since its loss in Lubbock against UT. The Red Raiders offense was neutered that evening, gaining just 144 yards. Expect that number to go up quite a bit against ISU.

This game comes down to whether ISU QB Austen Arnaud is actually healthy and can play effectively. If he can, the Cyclones can stay in this game. He's been playing with a bruised left shoulder, and played one series in ISU's most recent game, a win against Northern Iowa. If backup QB Jerome Tiller plays, TT should pull away in the second half.

If Arnaud plays, the game will be uncomfortable.

Texas Tech badly wins to win its next four games - Iowa State, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Colorado before going to College Station on Oct. 30 in a game that could decide who finishes third, maybe even second, in the South.

What are the keys to coming away with a victory Saturday against Texas Tech?

Wednesday September 29, 2010

Protect the QB, whichever one is in the game. TT has 8 int's in 3 games, most because of pressure on the QB, and 12 sacks. Defense is definitely better at Tech than it has been.
The QB's must be more accurate and penalties, especially holding and off. pass interference must be eliminated.
Defensively, limit the big plays by tackling and preventing yards after catch. Also pressure the QB--that has been huge for ISU when they have been able to apply pressure. TT has only 6 plays from scrimmage of 25 or more yards, so it's not as explosive as they have been in previous years. I expect Tech has worked on its run game this week as Tuberville wants a more balanced attack. Tech is averaging only 70 yards per game on the ground, 2.5 yards per carry. ISU D must be ready to answer the run challenge.
