RED SOX/ANGELS Under 9 +100 ? The Angels have catapulted themselves into a virtual tie for first place in the AL West on the strength of their pitching. Anaheim has a staff ERA of 3.90, a figure that drops to a very good 3.52 here at home. Not surprisingly, the Under is 27-19 in all Angels home games, with an average combined score of 8.71. Sele was a disappointment for most of the season, but he appears to have turned things around, as his last 2 starts were both excellent. Sele allowed a total of 3 runs in 14 innings over those starts, both vs. Oakland. Also, 5 of Sele?s last 6 starts vs. Boston were all Quality Starts. The Red Sox have been on an offensive tear as of late, but their production decreases somewhat on the road, where the Under is 27-23. Similar to Anaheim, the reason for Boston?s outstanding 33-18 road record is a pitching staff that has a road ERA of 3.54. Fossum is making his first start of the season after pitching very well out of the bullpen this year. Fossum has experience as a starter, as he started 7 games for Boston last season, albeit with very little success. However, he has shown some great maturity this season, as he has posted a 3.15 ERA with an excellent WHIP of 1.23 out of the pen. I see no reason why he can?t have that same success as a starter, facing an Anaheim team that is batting just .239 vs. southpaws over the last 10 games.

I believe that the Angels are 20-9 versus LHP this year. I believe that Fossum is a LHP. Something to keep in mind.

bos avg 5.5 rpg vs rhp on the road
ana avg 5 rpg vs lhp at home
ana is 5-4 vs lefty starters at home,33-19 overall
bos is 18-10 vs righties on the road, 33-17 overall

i liked the under initially, but neither of these pitchers
inspire me to bet the under, especially with these 2
possibly potent offenses.

one thing to note...i believe if memory serves me correct..lefties vs. fossum are batting over .300 while righties are batting like low .200's ...this stuck out to me when i read this for obvious reasons...usually lefty vs. lefty is an advantage to the pitcher...but in fossums case it is not...just thought i would thrown this in...cooz
