Why did Danny Graves start, and then why did he only pitch 3 innings? Thanks.

According to Yahoo update, Graves pitched 3innings, 38 pitches-25 for stikes, 2hit, 0 runs

Baseball.com said Boone wanted Graves to start and pitch a few innings for a few games to see if the was another viable closer available.
