Flying to Baton Rouge tomorrow afternoon. I bowl team event Wed. PM at 830PM and singles and doubles Thursday at 1145AM.

I'll give you my opinion of the shot when I return and also let you know of any restaurants/nightlife I may encounter.

The plan is to gamble for a few hours at Casino Rouge tomorrow night and Wed afternoon before bowling.

I do hope to find a great Cajun restaurant. Hopefully conceirge service at the Sheraton will know of a couple.

Wish me luck!

Knock 'em dead, Nole....

Was all set to post a message asking you why you didn't fill us on Nationals, and I see this thread...LOL.

Just finished up leagues last week and a few weeks off from throwing the ball is just what the Dr. ordered.

I'm gone from May 19th until the 24th and we shoot 'em on the 20th and 21st.

Good luck and good bowling, Nole!

Thanks hogman. I appreciate it!

What can I say redsfann, great minds....... :)

I get back in town after midnight Thursday night so I'll post Friday with my report(unless I bowl out of my mind and can't wait to post).

If I remember, you're a left-hander so I'll keep an eye on any southpaws that are kickin' butt and see where they're shootin'.

I'll chat with you Friday.

10pinslave? Man, that should be my name! :mj07:

I was a GM at a bowling center in Tallahassee for 16 years 10pin. I miss the business terribly but fate had other ideas and we moved to Knoxville.

This is my 22nd ABC tourney so I don't get nervous anymore. I've done quite well the last 4 years. I even finished 57th the year we were in Albuquerque.

My plan is $500.00 per shift for the brackets(50 boards). I've won a ton of money lately getting in this many boards. Even if you finish 2nd, you get $20.00 per bracket.

Too bad you get a 1099 every year. Of course I write off the trip to make it a wash.

Thanks for checking in 10pin. Hope the bowling business treats you right. I know it did for me.

Hey........glad to see a few other "keglers" here. While a bowling forum here would be nice, at's a longshot at best with about the same chance as a curling forum. Been competitively bowling my whole life, more years than I care to mention. Still carry around 200, sometimes more, depending upon whatever house scoring conditions I have for the season........just once per week with no practice, tho. I really enjoy the competition and always play in the highest end leagues I can find. Better bowlers along with usually higher payoffs as sponsors, etc. always add something. This year we had over $5000 added, not too bad, but down from 7-8 k from a few years ago.
I don't go to Nationals, but should, do state once in awhile. Good luck to all of you guys, hope conditions are to your favor and you all cash nicely. HIT ALOT OF HEADPINS........THE HITMAN

This is nice. I have been to Nationals twice. We have a group that goes each year and the two times they had openings I went. Then something comes up and am unable to ge the following year and I have to wait my turn. This has been a down year for me. I started out the year not being able to do sh*t. Normally carry a 200 avg. Just did our state tourny and left more 7 pins than I can count. Would not mind talking to fellow bowler here.

Good Luck

you must be a lefty, e man?
As an addition to my above post, I had a thrill this week at the lanes. Our anchor man and longtime friend shot 842 scratch (299 (7 pin),278,265). The house is not that high scoring and he only averages 215 or so. The 800 rings are alot nicer than usual this year, but he mumbled something about $400.

Hitman,

Yes I am a lefty. I don't have any 300's and my highest series is 774. I bowl twice a week and every other Sat with my wife. I have not bowled well at Nationals.

Congrats to your friend

a friend of mine shot 300 at nationals about three weeks ago. Nobody else thawent among the group shot very well. Very demanding shot from what I've heard. Lefty here also, so I am sure they're easier on my side.

Good luck.

I am not so sure they are easier on the left side. Normally there is one maybe two people on a pair that is a lefty and you don't get as much of an idea where as on the right side if someone is throwing good you can see what they are doing. The one advantage of being a lefty is the oil, but there are many houses that will not put out the same shot on each side. This was told to me by several people that I know who dress the lanes.

Your 300 is coming, eman. When you get it, look at it as a reward, not an accomplishment.
I have had 3,(2 somehow on the same pair) the first came after a couple of runs at it with two 299's & a 298. Funny thing is, after the fifth frame I knew I was gonna get it, .......my first one. Somehow I just knew it.........and alot of times I just don't think about it or am not filled with confidence anyway.
You got me on high series, tho, my high is only 770. I am somewhat streaky, I have trouble keeping lined up & smooth for more than a couple of games at a time, probably due to lack of practice. Example: did you ever open with 279, 278 and finish with 160?? I am more of a stroker than a cranker, and sometimes have very little area to work with, hence a miss by a board usually doesn't produce.
GL, nice chattin tenpins w/ ya. Your 300 is coming and it will be quite a thrill for you when you get it.

Ya I keep thinking that it will be coming. Every year I have streaks of 279 or higher but I can't seem to get past the 11th ball. I have a tourney that I am going to up in Green Bay and would like nothing more than to shoot 300 there. After the 5th straight strike they pay you money and if you get 300 it is worth like $1400.

If it comes it does.

Eman & slick..........my bud with the 842 this week is a lefty. We have a 3 man team, 2 are L & I am right. There are quite a few L in the league. It makes it a bit easier for me with my own oil, but harder for me teamwise as I can't line up from them & they can't give me any input as to what is happening on my side. Dure as hell the competition isn't gonna tell me. Hence, I am on my own alot.

Eman...try not to think about it too much. As I said, my first one came after 299 & 298. The first and second times after I had the first 11 I was a shakin at the knees and a thumpin at the heart. First time threw a bad bad shot and was high with it. Second time, was nervous and set down a good shot but was a bit high again with a 4 pin.
When I did finally get one, I wasn't so nervous for the 12th shot.........after being there 3 times before.

Yeah I know. I am kinda of relieved that the bowling season has come to a end except a couple of Tourny's left. Will probably throw a few games this summer.

Well, that was fun!!!!!!!

Thank God for the casinos!

Arrive Tuesday night, get my car, check in, and watch the "Amazing Race". I'm beyond tired but I still got a couple of hours in me to sample the casinos.

I go to Casino Rouge even though the Argosy Casino is connected to the Sheraton where I'm staying. I heard it was nicer(it was but not "oh my God" nice). This is gonna be hard to believe. I buy in for $500.00. A point has been established already so while I'm waiting for my chips I tell them, "$5.00 hard eight". Next roll it hits! I always parlay so now I have a $50.00 hard eight. Guess what? Next roll, hard eight! I about shit! Up $450.00 on 2 rolls. I have never hit a parlay that quick...ever! After that, it was up a little, down a little. Ended up $625.00 for 2 hours work. Great start!

Wed. AM I get cleaned up and head down to the lobby and they have a buffet restaurant in the atrium. Nice atmosphere. Adequate food. I don't bowl until 830PM so I hop over to the Argosy Casino. It's on a small riverboat but it serves it's purpose. Started at 1PM finished at 430PM. Hit another parlay and won some good money on one guy's roll(he held the dice for about 45 mins). After 3 1/2 hours I was up $710.00! So I'm up $1335.00 before I throw one shot! On the horizon, team event where I know I'm gonna kick some ass!

Not!!!!!!!!!
