ESPN.com has an article up where the Straw subtly accuses Barry Bonds of doing Steroids. Looks to me like Reggie's using the infalliable logic that if someone is doing something better than he ever could, they must be cheating. He was a great player and one of my favorites when I was a kid, but he remains selfish as hell to this day.

"the bunker"
unfortunately

unfortunately

it surely looks like "the reg" is right on this one...and he,and every other player that played it on the up and up have a right to get a little indignant...

no,there are no pictures of barry using the juice.....looks like that`s what it will take to convince some....

even if they have a drug policy, the barry`s of the world will still search out "legal" performance enhancing drugs....that is,legal in that that they are new and won`t appear on any banned lists until the next balco scandal pops up....some entreprenurial little chemist will surely keep the ball rolling..

he`s lucky he doesn`t have to buy his own ball caps...can get fairly pricey when the size of your head increases faster than gasoline prices....

Maybe I am missing something but Barry's head doesn't look any bigger to me than ten years ago. His face looks fatter from gaining all that muscle, but I don't see any massive change in bone structure.

I don't believe old timers have a right to be indignant at all. These old coots know damn well they would have done everything they could have to get an edge in their day. I don't buy for one second that a person as competitive as Reggie would have shunned something that gives a person a competitive advantage without major health risks when taken properly.

Jackson proceeded to say a lot. Among other things, he wants to join fellow Hall of Famers in a meeting with Selig. They would discuss how to do more than just spank those ruining the game with their joy ride on the steroids train. After all, the fading aura surrounding Jackson's 563 career home runs is at stake. The same goes for the power numbers of others.

"Somebody definitely is guilty of taking steroids, but if we [baseball veterans] speak the truth and show our concern, it's like, 'Oh, they're just whining,' " said Jackson, adding that he agrees with Hank Aaron that this is another Black Sox scandal.

You have 5 to 7 percent of players in the major leagues testing positive last year for steroids. You have an ongoing federal investigation. You have Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and Gary Sheffield linked to that investigation.

You mostly have more than a few players with Popeye arms overnight after owning the physique of Olive Oyl.

"Come on, now. You can't be breaking records hitting 200 home runs in three or four seasons. The greatest hitters in the history of the game didn't do that," said Jackson, referring to Bonds, supposedly a chiseled miracle at nearly 40.

Although Bonds spent the early part of his career as primarily a line-drive hitter, he now is just two home runs shy of his godfather, Willie Mays, for third place on the all-time list with 660. Then comes Ruth at 714 and Aaron at 755, and Jackson clenched his teeth.

"Henry Aaron never hit 50 in a season, so you're going to tell me that you're a greater hitter than Henry Aaron?" Jackson said. "Bonds hit 73 [in 2001], and he would have hit 100 if they would have pitched to him. I mean, come on, now. There is no way you can outperform Aaron and Ruth and Mays at that level.

"There is a reason why the greatest players of all time have 500. Then there is that group that is above 550. There is a reason for that. Guys played 19, 20, 25 years. They had 9,000 to 10,000 at-bats, and it was the same for everybody."

Then Jackson said softly, "Now, all of a sudden, you're hitting 50 when you're 40."
