If you were still wondering if Matt Leinart could head to the New York Giants, you can stop.

The Giants have acquired the veteran backup they?re going to need for this season, engineering a trade with the Minnesota Vikings for Sage Rosenfels, according to Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com.

No word yet on what the Giants are giving up, but it?s probably not much after it became clear Rosenfels would likely be the odd man out for the Vikings, who will employ Tarvaris Jackson(notes) as the backup to Brett Favre(notes). The Vikings want to bring along rookie Joe Webb(notes) as a third quarterback.

New York had Jim Sorgi(notes) but was forced to put him on injured reserve with a shoulder issue. Rhett Bomar had a chance to audition for the job but fell short. That left the Giants scrambling. They could have opted for someone like Patrick Ramsey(notes) but chose instead to deal for Rosenfels.

Somewhere in Corn Country
I've followed Rosenfels' career since his Iowa State days--his hometown is the next speck on the map up the highway from the speck I live in--he signed with the Vikes with the understanding he would be competing for the starting job--then Farver showed up--he was disappointed to be sure--but all the $$ they paid him to carry a clipboard had to make him feel a bit better...:SIB
