What should be startling to Democrats is the fact that the GOP retained and gained seats in the State Senate, as well as State Governor races. These races are far more important because this is the way the Electoral College works - on a STATEWIDE BASIS. Things are not looking good for the 2020 Presidential election at all for the left, and Dems should be alarmed about this. The Republicans lost control of the House decisively.
In the 10 battleground states for Governor, the Republicans had control of the office in 9 coming in. Assuming the recounts go in their favor in Georgia and Florida, they will now have 5.

Often but not always true. Although My political leanings are closer to Democrat than Republican, I have voted for some Republicans in the past, but not now.

The reason is Donald Trump. He is, hands down, the most incompetent President in our history.

He's also a serial liar, philanderer, tax cheat, boor and general piece of shit.

So, no, I will not vote for any Republican so long as Trump is in office.

Given his food habits and life style, we can hope for a fatal heart attack.

I certainly understand that position and most of the voting population is taking that stance and voting for poor candidates just because they are pissed at Trump (turn about is fair play, that's how Trump got elected so I'm not crying about it).

Some real scumbags got elected in PA simply because people voted Democrat over Trump. It is what it is, and what it is is a sad state of affairs.

My hope is people like Hedgie choke on that straight ticket button one day. People that stupid shouldn't be allowed to vote, yet they are, and their vote counts as much as others.

I'm not sure I agree with that, but I'm open to suggestions.

Democracy? Well...it's messy, noisy, sometimes a freak sideshow, but many countries make it work - India, USA, UK, France, Germany, Pakistan, Ireland, South Africa, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Philippines.

Personally, I'd prefer a benevolent dictatorship....but only if I get to be the Benevolent Dictator. And we bring back the gallows.....line 'em up and let the heads roll. :toast:

As entertaining as that would be, I was thinking along different lines.

1. Exterminate the Electoral College

2. Forget about party nomination, you wanna run and have the supporters to fund it? Then you are on the ticket. We had shitty choices this time around and they might get worse next time. Sure, I can write in who I want, but that's a waste of time.

3. If you have ties to any big business, you're out. Stop making decisions that fuck the country just so you can rack up a few more billion. I call this the George Bush the second rule.

4. This is where my system becomes very unpopular among the unwashed masses, you have to take a test to see how much your vote counts. You will never be able to convince me all votes should be equal. You have people like Hedgie who just mash the Republican button because "grog need gun" and you have people who educate themselves on the issues. When your test shows you actually know what is going on in this country and what needs decided then your vote counts as much as others, until then 10%, at most.

5. Failing that I go with your Benevolent Dictator idea.

I'm not certain what that form of government is called, although we did have something similar in the past.

Black people were guaranteed the right to vote within my lifetime, 1965.

and Women just since 1920.

and at sometime in the distant past (my memory fails) only landowners could vote.

So....qualifications beyond just being a citizen age 18+ is a somewhat new and revolutionary thing.

I think we can get just what you're after by applying the naturalization test to all wannabe voters. Pass the same test as a person seeking citizenship to become a voter.

I didn't use the word equality, I used the word equal when referring to how much one's vote should count. I guess I'll dumb it down for you as much as I can. When anyone votes today their votes counts as one in that particular election, district, etc... It doesn't matter how educated you are on the candidates or the needs of the people who have to live with the results of said election, it counts as one. I don't believe it should be that way.

For example, when you go to vote if you just smash the button for one particular party and don't even know the names of all the candidates you just voted for nor any of the issues they stand for then your vote should not count as one, it should count for much less than one.

I believe it?s a responsibility that should not be taken lightly, has far reaching consequences and effects more than just the person placing the vote.

Also, I don?t believe any form of government that lets idiots, religious nut jobs or mouth breathers cast those votes is a system that can succeed.

Nor can you get a concealed carry permit (in most states).

Nor can you get an electrician's license. A teaching certificate. A license to practice medicine. Apply insecticides. Dispense prescriptions. Fill teeth. Catch fish.

But any dumbass who knows absolutely nothing about the candidates, their policies, the Constitution, laws or anything else is allowed to vote.

The folks who elect our leaders should be the best and brightest among us. When every moron who can draw air is allowed to vote, disasters happen. Like now.
