I RENTED 2 NEW RELEASE MOVIES APPROX. 3 WEEKS AGO....................LAST MON. THE NOTICE THAT CAME IN THE MAIL SAID PLEASE RETURN MOVIES ASAP (MY BILL $89.00) YUP $89.00 I STILL HAVEN'T RETURNED THE MOVIES I IMAGINE THAT MY BILL IS NOW CLOSE TO $200.00 OR MORE NOT TO MENTION CABLE HAS PLAYED THE SAME MOVIES I'LL PROBALLY BE PAYING $200 OR MORE FOR LIKE 19 TIMES SINCE I RENTED THEM...
LETS SEE HERE................I HAVE DROVE BY THAT BLOCKBUSTER AT VERY LEAST 30X IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS IT IS ON THE WAY TO THE TRAIN STATION THAT I BRING MY SON TO FOR SCHOOL TWICE A DAY, ITS NEXT TO THE DRY CLEANERS MY DAUGHTER WORKS AT AND OF COURSE I PICK HER UP OFTEN FROM WORK, AND TO TOP IT OFF I'VE PICKED UP TAKE OUT MAYBE 3 OR 4 TIMES IN THAT SAME SHOPPING CENTER WITHIN THE 3 WEEK TIME SPAND..............................
I'M ALL PLAYED OUT WITH EXCUSES.................I USED THE (WAS IN THE HOSPITAL,I USED THE DEATH IN THE FAMILY (THAT TIME WASN'T A LIE, BUT I DON'T THINK IT EXCUSES 3 WEEKS WITH A 2 NIGHT RENTAL LOL AND THE LAST COULPLE OF TIMES I JUST PAID THE DAMN $50 BUCKS OR SO...............
HOW DOES THIS SOUND? I MAY MOVE THE MOVIES FROM THE TOP OF THE TV, TO MY CAR AND MAYBE WITH SOME LUCK INSTEAD OF JUST POPPING THEM INTO THE MAIL SLOT,AND SNEAKING AWAY QUICK ........ I WILL PLEAD WITH THE YOUNG PERSON THAT MY CAR WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND HAD TO BE TOWED AND I JUST GOT IT BACK.................

BETTER SOLUTION- BUY THE MOVIES FROM NOW ON......................

What's up T?? How's Ray???

I was a store manager for Blockbuster for 5 years before moving to Maryland.

1st question: How many rentals do you think you have??

2nd question: If the movie was only 3 weeks late, they must have had the red inserts, meaning they were fairly new. Yes?

Now the store manager is accountable for collecting as much and many late fees as possible. The ones you DO NOT pay are considered "Bad Debt" by blockbuster. If you have a lot of rentals, then ask for the district managers number. (even if you don't) When you call, say the following:

Hi ______, this is Mrs______ and i have a late fee that was due to a death in the family. My husband and I had to go to_____ and were gone almost 3 weeks taking care of a burial, trying to sell a house, etc <Now this is where the late fee goes away.>
I tried to talk to_____ at your store on_____ and he said there was nothing he could do. I love blockbuster and want to continue shopping here, but I was very turned off by his non caring attitude. the movies were in the back seat, which I NEVER even watched, and what I would like is your companies 800 number. I always pay my late fees and I feel this is just not how John Antioco would handle this (Company president) :D

I GUARANTEE THE LATE FEES ARE NOW GONE!!!!!!!!!

When a call like this (in Pensacola) hit my district manager, the late fees were 100% deleted!! The threat of the 800 number and the mention of Mr Antioco would make her skin crawl. I did the same thing. Bad debt affects BONUS!!!!! She would call me and have me wipe out Hundreds in late fees.

Let me know how you make out. They actually submit (electronicaly) to a CREDIT AGENCY!!!! But each store has an 800# to call and give pin numbers and have it erased. I did that many times. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. TOM

Movin back to Cali!
Rent from Hollywood Video next time. They're a national chain like blockbuster, but they give you an entire week for all rentals. Your penalty fee from them at this point had you rented from them would be like $30 instead of $200. Blockbuster is a rip off.

I had a friend who worked for blockbuster for several years, in a store and eventually in the offices in downtown Dallas. He told me to just go in and try to rent other movies and when you get to the counter and they say you have late fees you should say,
"I talked to a manager the last time I was here and he said something about FOS or something".

FOS in blockbuster terms means Found on Shelf. Sometimes movies are checked in but dont clear and they will find them on the shelf. When you use their "lingo" it will make the manager think you really talked to someone. He said this should work everytime. I have never had to try it as I hardly ever rent movies. I would try this before I tried the approach of saying you talked to a manager and he wasnt very understanding. This could result in termination for a manager that had nothing to do with you returning movies late.

I have always thought talking about deaths for a movie rental was bad karma and will come back to haunt you. At least I would save it for something real important.

I would return the movies and never go back. Take out a Hollywood membership and go from there. The two day rentals do suck though. But I will take that in return for them having many many more copies than they used to of the premium movies.

that is also true. FOS tapes are the ones that just plain DO NOT GET SCANNED when they are returned. Our store employees would say," Sorry, I can't take off your late fees, you need to talk to the store manager!" and voila, NOTHING happened.

Just my 2 cents. (That FOS would work only if the OTHER tape WAS checked in on time and the other was not.)

Scott, I wish i had a dime for every customer that came in bitching that Blockbuster late fees showed up on a credit report!!!!!!!

They really do send them to a credit agancy. Some agencies may laugh at late fees being there, but some do NOT!!!!

FWIW!!!

(It's called CPA out of Dallas, Texas)

The post inspired the return..............The damage was only $48.66the movies, ROAD TO PREDITION,and RED DRAGON not worth the ag! the card I recieved was billing me,( actually billing RAYMOND) lol for the rentals AND the purchase of the movies. I started off with the car accident story, but couldn't argue when I found out the balance due was only $50 bucks it was just easier to just pay the bill

TJB- your right!they do send your bill to creditors I of course would never let it get that far I actually just was thinking when I posted this topic?????? I wonder if anyone out there is as retarded as I am with returning movies????? This happens to me all the time.............I could OWN a serious movie colection by now.By the way I already used the death in the family story LOL

That's why I asked if they were the 2 day rentals (red insert) because after 3 weeks, they actually BILL YOU for the movie.

Next time they are late, do what I suggested. IT WORKS!!!!!!!

(I can see Ray now saying $50 for #$%&*) late fees!!) :D

When I worked there, I had big late fees too. lazy i guess.

:D  :D

Cut and paste that one too!! Try that one at a different shift. :D

(some Blockbusters do NOT erase late fees at different stores. Some will if it's the next store down the road) FYI :D

And you WILL have to give the blockbuster card number (from your Blockbuster card) so have that ready. Most csr's (Customer service reps that Blockbuster calls them) will erase anything. Just sound like you are one of them from down the street)

Just be an actor for a minute. you will be convincing!!!!!

heres my take.....hollywood video is run by some smart sunofagun....or whoever came up with the 1-week rental idea.

they must take in millions in late fees a year.....geez,im good for a couple hundred a year......they give u a week, but all that does is give you more time to forget about returning the damn video.
helluva a concept....i think its much easier to foeget about returning them when u have the extra 5-days to leave them laying around the house.....then heres what happens next......after u realize they are late.....usually on the 8 th day....u say, well, we might as well keep them another week, cause were gettin charged for them anyway......and of course u know what happens next......great idea they have.....they look great to the consumer....screwin blockbuster over by beating their measley 2-day rental and expanding it to 7......then they sit back and rake in all the late fee cash.

forget the rentals....wait for em to come out on cable next year...then u can watch em over and over again....
