Here we have a president with the 14th amendment in his back pocket and Wall Street breathing down the rights neck to get a deal done, and what does the Democrats and Obama do? He caves. Here is a guy who got Bin Laden, blasted the Somali pirates, and when it comes to politics in his very own country, folds up like a lawn chair. The best part is the continuation of these bad policies the right keeps getting thru will keep the economy down and then dumb shits like Dogs will blame it on the Democrats when in fact every policy he likes is getting passed  I love hearing the democrats say "i don't like this bill but yes im gonna vote for it" Are you kidding me? Good bless Gifford. She drug herself out of bed to make a bad vote and i heard some gullible democrats say they were gonna vote no but her inspiration made them change their vote. Are u fukin kidding me? I wish she would have stayed in bed.
When business are not spending and the consumer isn't spending the gov't must spend. Then again Hoover showed how to put us into a great depression when he said let the gov't just heal itself. How did that work? Now we have the Super Congress. They are gonna handle things down the road. 6 dems and 6 Republicans. Are u fukin kidding me? The super congress?

I agree with almost everything Sponge but....the RIGHT has full control now. Obama either sold us out or more likely he is a Neocon out to destroy the Middle Class. Even when he had full control he did nothing. We did not see Health Care Reform we got a bill that will make the doctors and insurance companies rich. This guy is a fraud and so is any DEM who votes for this bill and should be voted out.

Stevie u think Bush would have used that 14th amendment? He would have used it like nothing but Obama wants to make sure the congress works and is bipartisan even if it kills the middle class and poor. I hope someone runs against him in a primary. I hear talk of Nadar trying it. I wish he was a little younger but i will still vote for him.

14th amendment does not give the Pres the power to issue new debt or spend money on his own.

Article 1, section 8 (Constitution)

The Congress shall have power to . . . borrow money on the credit of the United States.?

The 14th Amendment doesn?t affect this power one bit. It applies only to debt ?authorized by law,?.

Congress makes the laws. Not the Pres.

And, this debt bill sucks. You really think a super committee in Congress will be able to cut $1.5 T - they couldn't even get to $1T now!?!?

So, when they can't, the defense budget and payment to Medicare PROVIDERS - (not Medcare recipients) will be cut. Hmmmm - so, the doctors who are seeing the Medicare patients will see their pay cut. How many GP's do you expect will drop seeing Medicare patients?

Just one small example but the whole bill sucks in its entirety and shows how inept and incompetent DC really is

What we need is a tea party only one for the middle class. But we are split. They have devided us but good. Those without jobs or working for low pay want to break the unions we have! It boggles my mind.

Obama caved in to the teabagger terrorists/blackmailers. He let them hold the debt limit increase hostage. That's not good faith bargaining.

He should have learned from the Israelis that there is only one way to deal with terrorists and blackmailers. No negotiations. Shoot them through the head immediately. If a few civilians go down, too bad. Never let blackmailers win at any price.

Now he is saying what we want to hear again. Why didn't he say it when "negotiating?" This guy is a real piece of work that cannot be trusted until he at least throws a crumb to the middle class.

I have heard by mulitple sources that Obama could raise the ceiling on his own if things were at a stalemate. Rumor has it that even Biden told the democrats this yesterday. So either Biden and all these sources are wrong or u are SSD. Anyway i can't wait till this super congress gets started. 6 and 6 and then after 20 ties one of the Dems jumps over to the other side to make it 7-5. The suspense is killing me. When they gonna get started? Maybe Gabby can get on the Dems side. She usually votes right anyway so she can jump quick.

The rebs controls things???--with Dems having control of senate and pres--what school did you all graduate from?

You had 2 years of complete control to take this country from what you/peloski was screaming about in the worst employment (4.6) since great depression rants
-- and transfer it to infact to the worst employment since great depression.

How about we live and let live-- reduce fed gov to what it was intended --defence/protection and give states rights to govern by laws voted in by their population.

You can take all your base and give harbor to illegals--increase welfare benefits-keep 2 year unemployment benefits--have the code pinkies protecting you-- no ID's required (in fact masks recommended) --unlimited credit cards backed by "your" treasury--tax everyone as much as you want etc

We'll take the fiscally prudent--low taxes for individuals and business--anyone with work history welcome.
Illegals will be immediately deported to "friendly states"--minimal welfare benefits.

--all can choose state that most reflects their values and accept consequences. Should be virtual utopia for boths sides being surrounded by like thinkers who share same values :SIB

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

--on who'll will be in charge in 2012??
Not sure anyone will want to be--
Your acorn organizer and Co may have put us past the point of no return-

-good possibilty we will never see 5% unemployment again--and company profits will continue to be contingent on reducing U.S. work force/inventory and investments offshore.

Lt. Gen. Russel Honor? commanded the military response to Hurricane Katrina. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2008 after 37 years, sits on the board of the Stevenson Disaster Management Institute and is an adjunct professor at Emory and Vanderbilt universities. He is the author of "Survival: How a Culture of Preparedness Can Save America and You from Disasters."

- Like most veterans, the men and women who have worn our nation's uniform to defend this country, I am furious with and disappointed in the state of indecision that plagued Washington these past few weeks. Whether or not to raise the debt ceiling so our country can continue to pay our bills and maintain our global credit rating didn't seem like such a difficult decision.

As a retired, disabled soldier who spent 37 years in the Army, I can only see this debacle -- the weeks of haggling to get to an eleventh-hour deal -- as the definition of "mission failure." At this point, even the last-minute deal that is on its way to President Obama's desk will not repair the damage our elected leadership's amateur-hour, worthless grandstanding has caused.

And it's not just our image as a world leader that has been harmed. It's our nation itself.

Our nation won the Revolutionary War because we shared a common purpose: freedom. General Washington's ragtag army, 20% of whom were slaves, were poorly armed and trained, freezing and hungry, yet they defeated the most powerful military in the world. Those men and their families were willing to sacrifice, to risk their lives and everything they had, to achieve our nation's freedom. Now the country that generations of Americans have worked and fought for, that 1.3 million soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors died fighting for, is at risk.

Why? Because our national elected leaders don't share a common purpose. They have failed to live up to their oaths of office, to protect and defend the Constitution and the United States of America. Instead they strike partisan poses they hope will be remembered during their next campaigns.

This isn't leadership, it's playacting. And we should all be disgusted.

The very notion that our federal government may not be able to pay its global debt is embarrassing, but it is shameful that our government has been willing to play games with the livelihoods of our active-duty soldiers, our veterans, and our most vulnerable citizens.

Our nation's government must remember its purpose: to keep this nation free. Many disabled veterans, the ones who are praying the check comes in the mail after all, can't work as result of injuries sustained on duty. They were willing to die to keep America free, and they sacrifice to this day. How many of the grandstanding clowns in Washington took a bullet in the name of freedom? Are they willing to sacrifice as much as the average National Guardsman does?

It's time to get draconian. But not with the helpless elderly who need their Social Security payments, not with the powerless Army private supporting a family. I mean it's time to load our elected officials on troop planes and send them to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Put them in tents with no air conditioning, have Army drill sergeants teach them teamwork and physical sacrifice. When they recognize their responsibility to the people of America, they can return to D.C., their upscale restaurants, and military plane trips, as though they were royalty.

And if they can't? Better that they should fail to learn what an 18-year-old Army private understands than continue to fail America

He's a lost cause, Sponge. We had a Republican administration that caused a global financial crisis, started pointless wars, destroyed the middle-class and mortgaged the economic future of our country away, and he's still regurgitating the same nonsense he always has.

With his dying breath, he'll whisper "da base...government tit...gumby" and like Charles Foster Kane's "Rosebud", no one will know what the hell he was mumbling.
