I understand how to stream videos, but not sure how to save movies to my new Kindle so I can watch them on flights. I tried using Handbrake to rip a DVD but it wouldn't work since there is a copyright block (apparently) on the DVD. Also tried VLC but it didn't DL. I've read a few things online but I can't seem to find anything that is easy and works.

1: How do I rip DVDs that I own and store them to the Kindle?

2: How do I purchase movies online and store them on the Kindle?

Thanks.

It is possible

It is possible

But why?

Anyhow

Load your own content. There is a common misconception that the Kindle Fire only supports movies and books purchased directly from Amazon.com. It is certainly very easy to fill your Kindle with content from Amazon, but you can also load your Fire up with ebooks, movies, music and pictures right from your computer. You'll need a mini-USB cable to do this, which isn't included with the Fire. Chances are you have one lying around your office though, since lots of computer peripherals use the same cable. Plug the cable into your Fire and the other end into a USB port on your computer. The Fire will go into USB Drive mode and show up in your computer's file system as an external USB drive. Double click on the Fire drive icon, and you'll see a bunch of folders with names like Music and Books. Just drop your files into the proper folder, and when you disconnect your Fire from the computer your content will be waiting for you.

Lot of videos on youtube covering this:

There are more about getting VLC or Windows media player on your kindle. They go through each step. Search for what you're looking for. I would guess the best method for buying movies on your kindle would be to buy them on Amazon in digital format (not rent them). Not sure whether or not you can load mp4 formats on the kindle, but that is the best format (not avi or mkv). Good luck.

Hey G, want to do the same so i can watch on flights too. I'm just going to use the help feature and let them talk me through it.

I've used it before and it is great. Have you ever tried it?

Another question?have you done Aruba?

Thanks Jon. I'll give that a try with the programs I have already downloaded. I'm pretty sure you are spot on about purchasing through Amazon and MP4 is the proper format.

Surprised more people haven't done this type of thing. Every time I look into something I find through Google, there is always a line about it being a pain in the ass.

Hi Bob. I haven't tried the Help feature. Only turned it on and connected the internet so far. I'll give it a go once I start messing around with it.

We haven't done Aruba because every time we look for flights the price would double the cost of a trip to Jamaica. Are you thinking about going there this winter? We're heading back to Jamaica but we're going in January rather than December.

We are doing Cancun the 1st week of Dec and then going to Jamaica in Jan or early Feb. Travel agent told us the week after New Year or the first 2 weeks in Feb were the best for prices.

I want to try Long Bay in Negril to get a different Jamaican vibe. We've been to Bloody Bay 3 times and Montego Bay once so looking for something different. What resorts are you looking at?

Wife wants Aruba so it's on the list but you're right it is more expensive.

We're heading back to one of the Sandals resorts in Montego Bay.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
To rip I use WinX DVD Ripper (the $29 paid upgrade over the free version). It will rip all copy protection DVDs, onto any file you might want, for any device imaginable. It is very straightforward and easy to use, unlike Handbrake....and when I started, I was able to use the free download version on 70% of DVDs out there.

in WinX you have to load the DVD by clicking Folder...and you bump up the image quality (and file size) by going to "Video Quality" option to increase the output file bitrate...

But yes, do remember that ripping any copy protected DVDs, even if you own them and only using for backup or personal use, is illegal...

This is exactly what I was looking for. Before I initiated this thread I was thinking of purchasing WinX DVD Ripper, but backed off bc I didn't want to waste my money. Thanks, TerryRay.

We're heading back to one of the Sandals resorts in Montego Bay.

I'll be at the Riu in Montego Bay 11/2-11/10. We stayed in a place next to a Sandals in Antigua a few years back, looked real nice. If you go to Aruba The Divi or the Tamirjn is the place to stay. Stayed at Paradisus in DR earlier this year, it was real nice, but the layout was miles long.

We have decided to stick with Sandals since they have a rewards program that will eventually get us a free vacation. Montego Bay has 3 options and we're content with all of them. The price is right and, as returning guests, we get a free room upgrade each time we stay.

We stayed at a place in the DR and it had a crazy layout too. They actually had shuttles running people from the hotel to the beach bc the walk was really long. No interest in that. I like easy and convenient.
