rix starting is more reason for me to lay off the gators. i dont know why rix gets such a bad rep. personally, i think hes a good quarterback, and if i was betting on florida- id much rather have to face mcpherson than rix. but thats jmo. definitely a game im gonna pass on. way too tough- especially with all these added variables

I have a friend here in Tallahassee who is pretty close to the program. This is what he told me.

Here is what I've heard: Nothing Confirmed

1. McPherson tried to cash a check $3,600 that wasn't made out to him.
2. Check was from a booster (local business)
3. Mcpherson was using the check to cover gambling debts.

My personal theory is that there is a number of FSU players gambling and that several players this year have been involved in throwing ball games. It just all adds up. Dropped balls, fumbles, clips, personal fouls. I think they should go back and look at the Louisville, Notre Dame, and Maryland games. Anquan Boldin, Robert Morgan, and Talman Gardner should also be investigated.

Don't forget the North Carolina game in which the line was 32 and they held a narrow (spread wise) 40-7 lead very late in the game and N. Caro got a late TD to go thru the back door.

Yes, the UNC game is the big one that comes to mind. That spread could have been set a bit higher, but there was talk that the linemakers knew something. And then, of course, came the backdoor cover.

If this is more than idle speculation, it would be HUGE news. And another reminder for us not to be naive as to the fact these games are not immune to fishy bizness, and that it does happen.

BTW hoyt, FSU covered vs. Maryland.

Actually, the Virginia game now really stands out in my mind. If anyone remembers, FSU had a 33pt lead late in the fourth quarter. Spread was around 24 (probably off by a couple of points). McPherson enters the game in garbage time and proceeds to turn the ball over twice I believe...one fumble was so blatantly obvious I still sticks in my memory. Virginia scores twice in the final five mintues to get the backdoor cover.

Hoyt--

Now Kelso Sturgeon's site is reporting basically exactly what you said. Can't always believe rumors but it looks like there could be something to this.

Does anyone remeber the Virginia game? Yeah, it cost me about two dimes. I had the 'Noles at -26 (line closed around 30), and it was 40-7 late in the game. Then UVA scored, but I thought I had a miracle cover after the UVA kicker missed an extra point and left the score at 40-13. But a late fumble and an uncharacteristically sieve-like defense let in another touchdown. VERY similar to the UNC game, where I also lost some cash.

Yeah, LVSC gave its clients an opening line of FSU -34 (and I thought that was awfully low), but Lupo at the Stardust opened it at -30, which seemed extremely suspicious at the time. He obviously did know something.
