Ron Paul Raises More Than $4.2 Million
By: Jim Kuhnhenn
Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, aided by an extraordinary outpouring of Internet support Monday, hauled in more than $4.2 million in nearly 24 hours.

Paul, the Texas congressman with a libertarian tilt and an out-of-Iraq pitch, entered heady fundraising territory with a surge of Web-based giving tied to the commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day.

Fawkes was a British mercenary who failed in his attempt to kill King James I on Nov. 5, 1605. He also was the model for the protagonist in the movie "V for Vendetta." Paul backers motivated donors on the Internet with mashed-up clips of the film on the online video site YouTube as well as the Guy Fawkes Day refrain: "Remember, remember the 5th of November."

Paul's total deposed Mitt Romney as the single-day fundraising record holder in the Republican presidential field. When it comes to sums amassed in one day, Paul now ranks only behind Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, who raised nearly $6.2 million on June 30, and Barack Obama.

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said the effort began independently about two months ago at the hands of Paul's backers. He said Paul picked up on the movement, mentioning in it speeches and interviews.

"It's been kind of building up virally," Benton said.

The $4.2 million represented online contributions from more than 37,000 donors, fundraising director Jonathan Bydlak said Monday night.

Paul has been lagging in the polls behind Republican front-runners. But he captured national attention at the end of September when he reported raising $5.2 million in three months, putting him fourth among Republican presidential candidates in fundraising for the quarter.

Paul as of Monday had raised more than $7 million since Oct. 1, more than half his goal of $12 million by the end of the year, according to his Web site.

Paul advocates limited government and low taxes like other Republicans, but he stands alone as the only GOP presidential candidate opposed to the Iraq war. He also has opposed Bush administration security measures that he says encroach on civil liberties.

"advocates limited government and low taxes like other Republicans"

good post Judge and I like Ron, he is a true conservative. But this jumped out at me as an absurd statement. These ass whipes calling themselves conservatives are anything but. Since when did a Republican reduce spending? Any Bush backing dipshit who thinks of themselves as a "conservative" is both an idiot and a disgrace to the Grand Old Party.

How is it that a lib such as myself misses Reagan and Goldwater? Oh yeah, its because they were decent men, who believed in something, and had resolve. The modern day "replublican" is nothing but a fvcking patsie for corporate interests that have no regard for America.

Sean Hannity to Wayne: "You are a great American sir."

Wayne to Sean: "I really wish it was me with that cigar Sean, btw, you are a great American too."

The land of the great American hillbilly, who sold us out. The land of the free, the home of the stupid corporate sell outs.

Paul is the only principled man in the race, and his campaign is a genuine grassroots phenomenon. The Government Party and its handmaiden media hate him. He threatens colossal, centralized control, and these people have vested interests in the dolts' continuing to believe that more cowbell (Great God Government) is the solution to whatever ails us.

WASHINGTON (CNN) ? The House voted Tuesday to stop Rep. Dennis Kucinich's, D-Ohio, effort to bring up a debate on impeaching Vice President Dick Cheney.

Kucinich, who is vying for the Democratic presidential nomination, has tried to bring up the issue on three separate occasions. The House voted 218-194 to send it to committee, effectively killing it.

On the House floor, Kucinich said Cheney "acted in a manner contrary to his trust as vice president." Kucinich also said Cheney harmed national security by openly threatening Iran.

"Vice President Richard B. Cheney by such conduct is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office," Kucinich said.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino criticized Democrats in Congress for spending time on this debate rather than focusing on health care for children and veterans.

"This Congress has not sent a single appropriations bill to the president?s desk this year ? a new record of failure," Perino said.

"Yet, they find time to spend an entire work period on futile votes to impeach the vice president or to pass contempt citations against the president?s chief of staff and former counsel. It is this behavior that leaves the American people shaking their head in wonder at this Congress,? Perino added.

I read that this story was somewhat gimmicked. I guess the idea was for his supporters to hold off until 11/5 to donate in order to put up a big number and get some press. Not a major offense in my opinion, but supposedly that's how he did it.

I like Ron Paul in some ways but in other ways he seems out of touch with certain realities of the modern world. He would've been the ideal candidate before the Cotton Gin.

:mj07:

He does seem to be the most forthright of the bunch to me. But forthright won't cut it in this dog eat dog world. Any of the other CFR candidates will keep the system rolling along.

ron paul would be a gift to the average American worker, but will not be elected.

Elvis,
My biggest concern there would be that IF he were indeed able to get rid of the FED, then the moneymen would pull the plug on the system. The workingman would be thrust into the ranks of the havenots. For our grandchildren maybe the system would be able to recover and be better for the workingman.....maybe.

I AM concerned every day that i will be part of the have nots..... there are too many illegals, too many lazy mfers screwing the system, too many wealthy f'ks being protected, too many soldiers dying in a sand box, too much money being spent to steal oil rather than produce vehicles that don't need it, too many insurance companies profiling and refusing coverage, too many gov regulations that do nothing, too many soldiers not defending our domestic enemies, too many middle class people being squezed to death, etc.

i do not think there will be an American economy in th enext 60 years due to the facts that we borrow far too much, give away far too much and we allow too much manufacturing to be done outside of the US. China could stop exporting raw materials and our construction would come to a grinding hault.

Elvis,

Certainly legit concerns. The wealthy bastards being protected and jokers screwing the system has always been and probably always will be.
As far as the oil, you see it as stealing, I see it as suppressing production and creating conflict to keep the PRICE high. Through interest rate manipulation and oil PRICE manipulation, they control all world economies.
We can go on and on about the global economy. We need them, they need us, to make the system work. The moneymen have taken their act on a more international stage, using US as their "strongarm". The bottom line is though that we Americans still enjoy a fantastic standard of living in this nation OVERALL, compaired to most.
Although our system really isn't what it's supposed to be, I think it does work pretty well. Now I realize the bastards sometimes pull some pretty dirty stunts, but all in all it's to maintain the system.

Wayne, Paul certainly has a grass roots backing the likes of which this country has never seen. I realize that many view his platforms as being too simplistic and therefore unrealistic but I have seen very few able to counter with reasons why they won't work.

I am curious what you think of this interesting candidate.

Maybe I was too quick on judging this guy per his stance on war Gregg--and looked no further on his stances on other issues.
I went to sight to look at where he stands on issues--
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/

--and have to say that aside from war standpoint which I can respect ones opinion on- I would strongly agree with him on the other issues--with just a tad of reservation on the pro life ( only to the point of dictating my beliefs in that area on others)

--did some further checking--and also appears his voting record has not deviated from where he stands on issues--thats a good sign.
