I've never been a huge Roy fan. Big ego, a dick to the fans in general. He is GREAT at coaching one single type of basketball- run and gun. It's totally dependent on getting a once or twice in a decade PG (see Raymond Felton, Ty Lawson) and the other correct personnel. If he can't get the players he needs to play his system, that's all she wrote. In-game adjustments? Never. I think a good litmus test of a coach is how you can coach up your team when forced into playing a half-court offense. See Iowa game tonight- zone all day and all Roy has the players do is throw swing passes around the perimeter and chuck 3s. We've taken about 20 shots more than them and are down at the end of the 1h. Another biggie is that Roy has lost his recruiting edge. His sales pitch- you know, come to Kansas/Carolina, we'll take you in as family, teach you how to be a man, get you a quality education (cough cough)....doesn't fly these days. See Cal for how today's players need to be recruited. Long-story short is that he's got maybe 1 more decent run in him and it's about it. I will say it will be a sad day for ACC basketball when both K and Roy are no longer on the sidelines.
