I watched it on Sunday. It was a decent piece.

What struck me is that Rumsfeld came off great to me. If you ignore the fact that he's a committed hawk and I'm very dovish, then I love the guy.

Rumsfeld is unafraid to change, he believes in doing something when he finds inefficiencies, he embraces technology, he realizes that supporting despots no longer works and he doesn't take any crap from people who have gotten entrenched and/or complacent in their work.

I now get the feeling that he keeps getting hammered by people who are either A) Democrats or B) bitter that he wanted to change the military with the times. I see all the criticism about body armor and troop levels but to me that is all window dressing. The mistake here was clearly going into Iraq in the first place.

I realize that this praise of Rumsfeld is flawed because in his work with PNAC he clearly helped write the policy of "spreading democracy". Still, I wish that people would quit blindly quoting bitter Army people about low troops levels and give this guy a fair appraisal.

Fine, I'll give you that one. ....But only if we can replace complacent with ...let's say....unwise?

The way he misplayed this Occupation of Iraq, that he helped sell to the American people, he has to be either an incompetent idiot or a crook and no amount of spin can change that.
