I am about to take a position as an offensive cord. at a local high school in the Baltimore area. I am very interested in learning more about this type of offense. I have been searching the internet for information regarding the run-shoot but have not found much. The only thing I can find in my area is an article from 2 guys from ESPN 1300 radio. Can someone on this board validate this article and let me know if I should contact him etc....

Please feel free to email me with other links that I can look at as well. Thanks in advance!

hawaii runs the closest thing to a true run-n-shoot so gotta think that some searches that incorporate june jones and mouse davis will turn something up. that article link you posted is conceptually accurate so you at least have a good starting point.

the wing-T is a bit of an anachronism, but when you see a team run it correctly, whew-- its a bitch to stop. youre kinda talking about two ends of the spectrum though with the wing-T and the run-n-shoot. my experience is on the offensive side of the ball as a receiver, so i enjoy watching sophisticated passing games, but a lot of teams are trying to get too cute with the passing game now. running the ball still wins football games in the long run. and just like we theres been a movement toward lots of spread offenses, gotta think there will be a movement back to the power rushing game at some point.

all you have to do is go to the wvu coaching clinic for high school coaches in the summer also look up hoover hs in Alabama they have a clinic every summer with a guy who does nothing but runs clinics for high school coaches will get his name but know he does a big one at hoover each year and they use bits and oieces of what he teaches and they have been a very good fb team in the state of AL. Also a coaching camp ran in ohio every summer 1 in youngstown cardinal-mooney (sp) other in cinn. at cinn princeton or least they use to run big ones. you can get a whole list of coaching camps for hs coaches dang had the list in file in desk email me in a few days i will et it for you when i find it. there are lot of them out there. all of these are ran by college coaches and some pro asst.coaches. give me till tues that is the day i take off and will find it and send you the site with all the info. or will have one faxed to you from a college coach I know when they are in black out time. Might be able to get it from him sooner maybe in late feb or early march. His is much longer then site i will give you that list coaching clinics.

Thanks Fletcher, I didn't even think about looking up a few schools until you and gman mentioned it. If you can find that file please email it to me.

i googled run shoot playbook and this popped up

looks decent

if that doesn't work i have my old college flag football playbook where we ran a hybrid - zone read/wish bone passing game and hours of game film

worth a zillion dollars to me.

back on a serious note

Not sure if you saw college game day featuring T Tech's tennis ball catching drill. It turned Joe "Stone hands" Filiani into a real receiver this year. Could help develop young receivers without much experience in highschool.

Keep us updated on your plans, I love this shiznit

best thing to do is go online to schools that run this offense in college and get ballsy and call an ass. coach and they will usually help you, & evensend you tons of info, or even video---you'd be surprised how much schools will help HS coaches; Ive had some biggest names in hoops write me and be gerenous, then others big time ya, but thats human nature

gl, scrounge around, you will find help ... most schools have emails and ph #s online

take care

Coaching clinics best way to gather info, and then network. Before picking the offense, what type of kids do you have, and or typify your program? I would tailor the offense to the personnel, with wrinkles.

One of the winningest coaches in WI, smaller schools runs the same offense every year and uses the passing tree numbers, only 4 formations, and either left or right. He usually goes no huddle, and allows QB a 2 route progression or he runs (it mnight have been 3). He believe he does not want his QB in HS to over think his position, much less the receivers. Philsophy was, I would rather let you know ahead of time what I was going to do, and then beat you athleticlaly than to play a chess match! (that takes balls, or elite athletes). He was successful, and simple!

I had to sets of players for me teams, a heavier set for more wishbone type plays, and inside veer. If I went quick I would have more outside veer, and pass plays called. It worked if the kids were well coached, and made for very diffcult adjustments at halftime for the opposing defense.

Now I am much more versed on the "d" side of the ball, and the offense I hated to go against was a truly disciplined, and athletic wishbone team with an accurate passer and one excpetional receiver. Almost unstoppable IMHO!!

I wish I could remember the school, and coaches name. This was a coaching clinic with multiple speakers back in 1995, at UW-Stout where it was hosted.

It is memorable because the talks also included George Thole (George Thole retired as head football coach at Stillwater after the 1999 season. He ranks among Minnesota's top coaches in history with a 285-69-2 record (.805 winning percentage), including four state titles and two state runner-up finishes among 22 championship seasons. He co-authored (with Jerry Foley) "From Veer to Eternity - Coaching a Football Dynasty.") and at the time the Minnesota Gopher Offensive Coordinator, under Jim Wacker (Forget his name as well) that gave a presentation that literally almost lost every coach! His terminology, sets, and his play calling was like trying to read Chinese. I felt sorry for his QB, much less anyone else trying to learn his system. Probably why he ownly won 3 games that year!

It has been my experience that regardless of grade level that you should stick to what you know. If you are not VERY familiar with that particular offense then it will be unbelievably hard to incorporate in to a new offense or change their offense altogether. I can send you any information on the Wing T as we have been running it for years and can also send you what I have on the run and shoot which in all honesty I don't believe is the best offense unless you have an unbelievably good half back and a very quick QB with a strong arm. Anyway I have to get to practice now so let me know if I can help.

Any luck?

No Luck - went through the game room closet which I was sure the holder of that little red treasure known as the ACSI Alkies Playbook - Checked in the attic as well with no luck - I shot an email to an old college buddy to see if he had a copy and waiting to hear back from him.

I did find some pictures of the team which made me think about this song -

Yeah, I'd be really interested in this little treasure. I'm running a beginner's city league and wanted to get as much information as possible.

*crosses fingers* that said college buddy can find this little treasure!!!!
