After watching the All-Star game, what I appreciated most was the appropriate booing of Barry Bonds.
They booed Barry Bonds and EVERYBODY SHOULD BOO BONDS ? because he?s an arrogant egotist, selfish, and because he cheats at hitting home runs. Bonds owns the HR record ONLY because he?s on steroids/growth hormones and because he wears bullet proof armor to protect his arm and body hanging over the plate.
Bonds shows up opposing pitchers and teams by standing at home plate and admiring his home runs and trotting in slow motion around the bases after a home run, he brags about his exploits to the media as he has done so often in the Bay Area media and did this week at the all-star game, he puts himself above the team and seeks records before wins and that?s why he has constantly been in fights with his own teammates in San Francisco. He is a disgrace to the game of baseball.
Someone inform Mr. Bonds that Ruth not only set records as a hitter but also as a pitcher. Ruth has many more marks that Bonds won?t come close to, and it will take Bonds many more at bats to get to Ruth?s total HR number than it took Ruth. He doesn?t compare to Ruth.
Here?s just some of the figures:
Games: Ruth = 2503; Bonds = 2519
At Bats: Ruth = 8399; Bonds = 8591
Hits: Ruth = 2873; Bonds = 2543
Average: Ruth = .342; Bonds = .296
HR: Ruth = 714; Bonds = 643
RBI: Ruth = 2213; Bonds = 1715
Runs: Ruth = 2174; Bonds = 1898
OBP: Ruth = .474; Bonds = .430
SLG: Ruth = .690; Bonds = .599
Total Base: Ruth 5793; Bonds =5145
Some of Ruth?s pitching stats:
94-46 W-L percentage, 2.28 ERA (park adjusted 2.77 ERA), a 20-game winner twice (24-13, 23-12 and a league-leading 1.75 ERA and 9 shutouts, 18-8, all with Red Sox)
Also, when Ruth ? WITHOUT THE AID OF STEROIDS/GROWTH HORMONES ? hit the revolutionary 60 home runs in 1927, the great Gehrig hit 47, but the next highest HR total in the league was just 18! And the top HR total in the NL in 1927 was just 30.
When Bonds leaves baseball, it will be a great day for the sport --- and the sooner the better.
??And just think what Ruth or Ted Williams or Willie Mays would have done on steroids and growth hormones!
I THINK BONDS EPITOMIZES WHAT IS WRONG WITH MAJORITY OF TODAYS ATHLETES....NOT ALL MODERN DAY BALLPLAYERS ARE BONDS LIKE.....I LIKE THE WAY ALBERT PUJOLS PLAYS THE GAME, I CAN ONLY HOPE HE BLOWS ALL BONDS' CURRENT RECORDS AWAY ...PUJOLS PLAYS WITH CLASS, HUMILITY AND RESPECT OF THE GAME AND HIS OPPENENTS...HE IS YOUNG, I HOPE HE STAYS THE WAY HE IS, PLAYS FOR 20 YRS. PLUS AND SETS MANY NEW RECORDS.
