We're all goning to have to make sacrifices"

The First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her "closest friends." According to CNN, the group is expected to occupy 60 to 70 rooms, more than a third of the lodgings at the 160-room resort. Not exactly what one would call cutting back in troubled times.
Reports are calling the lodgings of Obama's Spanish fiesta, the Hotel Villa Padierna in Marbella, "luxurious," "posh" and "a millionaires' playground." Estimated room rate per night? Up to a staggering $2,500.
Method of transportation? Air Force Two.
As New York Daily News columnist Andrea Tantaros (from whom the preceding quotes are taken) observes:
To be clear, what the Obamas do with their money is one thing; what they do with ours is another. Transporting and housing the estimated 70 Secret Service agents who will flank the material girl will cost the taxpayers a pretty penny.

(CNN) -- A court hearing is scheduled for Friday in the case of a soldier who has refused to deploy to Afghanistan until President Obama proves that he was born in America and is legally eligible to be president.

Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin is scheduled to go before a judge in Virginia to enter a plea on charges that include disobeying a lawful order and dereliction of duty.

He is a decorated Army doctor and an 18-year veteran who is now facing court martial for disobeying orders to ship out for another tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Lakin says the orders are illegal because, he claims, Obama -- the commander-in-chief -- has not proven he was born in this country.

Lakin wants Obama to produce his birth certificate.

"It's a fundamental of the Constitution, and my oath of office is to the Constitution. And I believe we need truth on this matter," Lakin told CNN's "AC 360" in May.

Lakin's stance is similar to that of the so-called "birthers"

Birthers have argued that Obama was not born in Hawaii or that if he was, his citizenship was invalidated by living overseas as a child.

"I am not guilty of these charges, and will plead 'not guilty' to them because of my conviction that our Commander-in-Chief may be ineligible under the United States Constitution to serve in that highest of all offices," Lakin said in a press release issued this week by the American Patriot Foundation, a group that has established a fund for his legal defense.

"The truth matters. The Constitution matters. If President Obama is a natural born citizen, then the American people deserve to see proof, and if he is not, then I believe the orders in this case were illegal."

Hawaiian officials have said they have documents that prove Obama was born there.

The Mrs got you early today--got some extra chores on that (to do list) for you before she heads to work?

--and what exactly does Gumby refusing to provide birth certificate--have to do with all the sacrifices "I'm finally proud to be an American" appears to making?

It stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there's someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice, speaks of slaves and masters. And intends to be the master.

My wife was in a serious car accident 3 years ago and is unable to funciton normally due to chronic
back pain. She is unable to work.
She will be undergoing back surgery in the next month or so. But thanks for asking.

The birth certificate has been shown for anyone that is not a total birther like you are.

I thought it was quite incredulous that this guy would try to get out of his service duty with that lame excuse.

Seems like a vet like you should at least agree that he is trying to circumvent his duty. Kinda like George W did in Alabama National Guard.

Sorry to hear that Scott...have you guys tried decompression therapy? Back surgery is risky from what I've heard.

In all seriousness...I'll be praying for her, back pain is very debilitating.

we havnt tried that but we have done everything else including accupuncture ( which aint all its cracked up to be )

She has had two surgerys already for broken bones, shoulder surgery, and knee arthroscopic.

She had a discogram to identify where the pain is coming from.
We have had 3 opinions and all say the same thing which is fusion.
The neurosurgeon is one of the top brain/ spine doctors in Ga.
The neurosurgeon has signed the contract and now we are just waiting for the vascular surgeon to sign on.
Alot of lawyers involved and it is hard to fathom what we have been through with this.

The young girl that hit my wife was on a cellphone and ran a red light. It totaled the vehicle my wife was driving and one other one that was beside my wife in the other lane. Our vehicles frame was bent so bad the doors would not open for me to talk to my wife when I got there in about 10 minutes. I was there before the cops almost as it was only a few miles from where we live.

The girl 20 never came over and asked how anyone was . The only thing anyone heard her say was ... Oh my jeep. My jeep.

Hard to imagine that kind of thinking and lack of human empathy.

Her father arrived to take care of everything for her and I am sure within a week she was driving a new jeep.

We have over 150 K in medical bills so far before this surgery. This surgery will be another 90 k from what I have seen.

My wife has been on morphine now for 2 years and I am so afraid she will have to go to rehab to get off them once the surgery is over.
She cant walk over 100 ft without having to rest.
I have to help her with many things that are normal to most of us.

She forgets where she is at times and stumbles with words and reality thinking. Not to mention she cant sleep, vomits constantly from the meds, severe constipation, nausea, unable to sleep on any schedule etc etc.

thanks for any prayers coming my wifes way.

Well, please ask about the decompression before the surgery...I know someone who did it and they swear by it. It might not be for you guys but do ask.

Either way I know she is looking forward to getting off the pain therapy, and getting back to a normal life. Not just hers but yours too.

Hang in there...

EDIT: Sorry for Hijacking this thread...as you were.

Scott, I'm with the many here wishing for the best. Some of those things I can relate to, no fun. Hang in there, I know it is more work than I can imagine taking care of her. You are a good person. :toast:

Sorry to hear this Scott. I can only Imagine what you are going through but got a glimpse when my wife went through a trauma with her back and was bed ridden for a month and on a ton of medication. Scared the hell out of me. Hope the doctors can find something to help your wife.
Keep fighting.

You're a good man Scotty. I've been on and off this board for for more than 2 years and I don't recall you ever mentioning this before.

You were the first guy that started bustin my balls on this board. I liked you right away. :142smilie

Btw... I agree. This guy's just using the Army to bring attention to his Birther agenda. Pathetic.

Sorry to hear that also Scott--I certainly didn't gather that from your past posts when you were speaking of medical bills for her and blaming it on healthcare/pre existing and not being able to get coverage--because if auto accident all initial and future expenses should be paid by PIP and PC insurance? So I'm a bit confused --maybe you could clear that up?

well I dont want to get into a insurance explanation because I know how you will try to pick that apart.

Suffice it to say this.

We had insurance with the company she worked for at the time of the accident. They paid alot of the expense for the first year. The surgerys etc.
I had to cover alot of out of pocket stuff for the 20% that wasnt covered.

Her company at first were very good to her. They allowed her to recover and take leave with partial pay. It took her about five months to get the surgerys done. During the last one in mid June she was doing physical therepy for her shoulder. Her company wrote her a letter and said if she did not return to work by August 1 she would be terminated. She loved her job and she decided

she could do it. So she went back to work. She was taking strong pain meds still for her back. She worked for a defense company in robotics where she had to sit under a microscope alot. During the first month back, She made some mistakes with some equipment because she couldnt remember to do things on schedule and they fired her. After 9 years of never having a write up, they wanted her out mostly due to the further medical they would endure, they got rid of the problem.

We have paid alot out of pocket for things not covered after that. We weill get it all back in the end of this, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Alot of lawyers and depostions from doctors going on. I just want my wife to have this surgery and be well again.

It is Allstate and they fight pretty much everything.

just venting

so much on my mind
