Tonight?s Game
Eighth-seeded Canisius opens its 18th MAAC Tournament by taking on ninth-seeded Saint Peter?s.

The Blue and Gold is on an eight-game losing skid, the longest current streak in the league. Canisius is coming off a 74-71 setback to Loyola last Sunday at home.

Saint Peter?s is 2-2 in its last four and coming off a 63-60 home loss to Fairfield last Sunday. The Peacocks suffered through a 17-game losing streak earlier this season, which included two league losses to Canisius.

Canisius has defeated a MAAC team three times in the same season on five occasions (Niagara, 1994; Loyola, 1995; Fairfield, 1996; Saint Peter?s, 2001; Marist, 2005).

The last meeting between Canisius and Saint Peter?s was back on Jan. 13, in the Yanitelli Center, when Canisius posted a 68-47 victory.

Canisius owns a 2-4 all-time mark at the Arena at Harbor Yard with all six games coming against Fairfield. The Griffs? last victory there was Jan. 7, 2006, when the Blue and Gold topped the Stags 84-73.

The Peacocks are 1-1 at a neutral site this season, while the Griffs will be playing in their first contest on a neutral floor.

It?s the fourth time in the last six years Canisius has finished eighth in the MAAC and the second time in the last six years the Griffs are the eighth seed.

The Griffs are on their longest losing skid since they lost eight in a row in the 2004-05 season.

The last time the Blue and Gold lost nine straight games was in 1987-88 (last three of 1986-87, first eight of 1987-88).
Canisius in the Tourney
The Griffs own an 18-16 all-time MAAC Tournament record, the third-highest winning percentage of the current conference programs.

The Griffs have won the tourney once (1996), advanced to the finals three times and played in the semis seven times. The Blue and Gold has won at least one game in the tourney five of the last seven years.

Saint Peter?s is 3-1 against Canisius in the MAAC Tournament. The Peacocks won the first three meetings against the Griffs but dropped the last decision 84-72 in the first round in 2001 at HSBC Arena. Canisius went on to lose 74-67 to Iona in the championship game.

The Griffs own an 8-4 mark as the higher seed in MAAC Tourney games and a 3-4 record as the eighth seed.

This will be the MAAC Tournament debut as a head coach for Tom Parrotta but his 11th MAAC Tourney overall (4 as a player at Fordham, 6 as an assistant coach at Niagara). It will be Parrotta?s first tourney since 2000-01, when he was an assistant coach for the Purple Eagles.

It?s also the Griffs? first MAAC Tournament game in the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Canisius has not advanced past the quarterfinal round since 2002.
