Washburn says cheese, please
The Wisconsin resident will make his first start in his home state since making the major leagues.

MILWAUKEE ?C Angels manager Mike Scioscia walked by today's starter, Jarrod Washburn, on his way out of the visiting clubhouse at Miller Park on Friday.
"What's up, cheesehead?" Scioscia said.
Washburn just smiled. He was right at home. For the first time in his major-league career, Washburn will pitch in his home state of Wisconsin.
He went to high school in Webster, about six hours north up Highway 35, and he still lives there in the offseason. He has many relatives in New Lisbon, which is about two hours away. His Aunt Diane already bought 62 tickets for tonight's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
"I'm looking forward to it," Washburn said. "A lot of people who haven't seen me pitch will be here. They've all seen me on TV, but some have never been to a game before."
Washburn saw many games in Milwaukee as a kid, but that was at County Stadium, which was demolished after the 2000 season.
"I liked the old place," Washburn said. "People say it was a dump and run down. But as a little kid coming to a big-league park, you don't think about that stuff."
He also didn't think about pitching in a big-league park one day.
"I always imagined myself as a hitter," Washburn said. "I always dreamed of playing in the big leagues, but it didn't sink in until I was in college."
Washburn went to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he was a member of the NCAA Division III national championship team in 1994. He was a second-round pick by the Angels in the June draft of '95.
His parents, who also still live in Webster, usually drive the two hours to see him play in Minneapolis when the Angels play the Minnesota Twins. But even though it's closer to his hometown than Milwaukee is, it's simply not the same.
"I don't consider myself a Minnesotan," Washburn said. "I'm from Wisconsin. I grew up listening to (broadcaster Bob) Uecker and going to Brewers games. I'll always be from Wisconsin."
