Miami is one of the biggest ?drought? teams on the road. They have
a knack for falling behind and digging a hole for themselves. If
they manage to correct that problem and hang in there early, then
there are still several factors that figure to help things unravel
against them in favor of the home favorite.

Miami played a lot of zone under former head coach Frank Haith.
First-season head coach Jim Larranaga is a man-to-man, help defense
guy. As Miami heads into ACC play, there is a still a defensive
learning curve they must negotiate, especially against a team that
moves the ball around the floor as well as Virginia does. They have
to double on Mike Scott in the paint (16+, 9+), which will leave
somebody else open a lot. Playing more man-to-man also results in
more fouls, against a Virginia team where the top four scorers all
shoot better than 80% from the free-throw line.
