BELMONT STAKES
RACE #11
THE BIG ONE
my thoughts & future bets on Belmont tomorrow... all winning odds are opening lines - I have not placed my bets yet...
DEPUTY GLITTERS
15-1
**to win
**to show
Edgar Prado is the number 1 jockey in the world and he has never ridden Deputy Glitters and I think he can do some damage with this horse. Glitters placed eighth in the Derby earlier this year, amid an impressive field and with a bad post position of 14. Glitters is 1-0 at Belmont and has the endurance to win this one.
HIGH FINANCE
12-1
**to win
**to show
This horse has the highest Beyer speed figure of any horses in the Belmont, but is a bit of a wild card. The longest race this horse has run is a mile, but he has good pedigree for long races and no horses entered in the field have run the 1 ? miles before. Also, this horse has only run 5 races, but showed in all these races, placing second to Bernardini in one and winning the last two. Jockey Elbar Coa is very experienced and rode High Finance in the horse's last win which was at Belmont.
BLUEGRASS CAT
3-1
**to show
Todd Pletcher is the #1 trainer in the world. In addition to Bluegrass Cat, Sunriver is trained by Pletcher, and I think one of his horses has a good chance to show. I don?t think Sunriver will last the distance. Bluegrass Cat has been solid this year, winning one and placing second in two races in 4 starts (including the Kentucky Derby). This horse has two victories at the Belmont as a two year old and is reunited with jockey Velazquez after having a new jockey at the Derby. Bluegrass Cat is starting out of post 9, so this is a slight disadvantage, but over such a long race I think this horse will show up.
STEPPENWOLFER
9-2
**to show
Steppenwolfer drew a bad post position at 11, or else I would probably place a bet on this horse to win. Only two horses have won out of gate 11 in the last 100 years at the Belmont. This horse also has never run at Belmont. However, Steppenwolfer has showed in all 6 of his starts this year, including third place at the Derby. Jockey Robby Albarado has ridden Steppenwolfer four times in a row, so he is well acquainted with the horse.
OTHER NOTEWORTHY CONTENDERS:
BOB AND JOHN
5-1
Bob Baffert is an excellent trainer, but I have not been impressed with Bob and John this year. This horse doesn't seem to adjust to adversity well. Despite a good post at the Kentucky Derby, the distance and competition were too much. I expect a similar result at the Belmont, where Bob and John has never run.
SUNRIVER
4-1
Todd Pletcher?s other horse does have a good post position at 2. I just don?t think Sunriver has as much distance endurance as Bluegrass Cat.
My Long Shot Trifecta:
Deputy Glitters
Bluegrass Cat
High Finance
I'll also be betting on other Belmont races
throughout the day tomorrow and I'll post my picks here. One I know for sure --
RACE #8
TOO MUCH BLING :shade:
2-1
**to win
**to show
oh yeah - you can't deny a horse with this name
Trained by Baffert and ridden by Garrett Gomez
