We have lots of new faces in here so I thought it might be a good idea to review how I calculate the MJQ.........also known as the Mad Jack Quotient, which is what I use to grade everyone's baseball card on a daily basis.
Firstly I simply assign each posted play a value of ONE unit, regardless of how many units, stars, asterisks or happy faces you put beside the pick. Secondly I totally ignore all parlays, whether they win or lose, because baseball parlays all pay different amounts based on the teams involved.
Then at the end of the night, I add up everyone's card based on all ONE unit plays and all those who total an MJQ of 2.00 or better make the Leader Board for that day.
Example:
Bob Smith posts this card:
Boston(-135) for 4 units......win
Tampa Bay(+160) for 3 units.....win
Florida(-120) for 3 units........loss
Minnesota(Under 10.5,-110) for 2 units.......win
Atlanta(Over 8.5,-115) for 1.5 units.........loss
Parlay Seattle and the Yankees...2 units pays 3.75.
First, I throw out the parlay and I ignore the units posted and assign each play a value of ONE unit. So, Boston nets +1.00 MJQ, Tampa nets +1.60 MJQ, Florida nets -1.20 MJQ, Minnesota nets +1.00 MJQ and Atlanta nets -1.15 MJQ. Total for Bob Smith's card is +1.25 MJQ's.
It is not a perfect system but I think is accomplishes what I want and that is to give some recognition to the hot cappers and to the consistent cappers. It also lets everyone know who is riding a hot streak and that is invaluable in our hobby. Hope this explanation helps.
